Here is how I do it (Does not always work for me or them)

If it is not that serious, do nothing. I just shake my head. If there is going to be an interaction, take these steps:

1 - Stay calm and focused. Avoid shouting or using obscene gestures. (This is sometimes hard to do when someone has just about killed you)
2 - Know the road laws
3 - Stick to series of events and how they unfolded and use #2
4 - When they start going on about road tax, simply calmly say "I pay it too, I feel your pain."
5 - If they say get on the bike path where there is none to be on, calmly tell them to contact their local representative and say that one should be built.
6 - Have a camera on your bike. (Does not matter if it is on or not. They do not know that) Calmly tell them that their actions and current interaction are being recorded and may be presented to the police for further action on your behalf.
7 - If the situation is escalating on the other partie's behalf and even physical violence is being threatened, Flag down passing motorist or pedestrians to make them aware of what is going on. You may need witnesses.
8 - If you are struck by an individual, do not retaliate. They may be armed with a knife or anything else that could really hurt you. Usually when you fight back it just escalates things further. Tell them that you are going to the police and you have their registration.
9 - By the time it gets to this stage and thing have calmed down, start taking names and contact information from witnesses. Contact immediately or go directly to the police. The person involved may have been drinking or under the influence of drugs. The sooner this individual can be talked to by to police the better.

Always acknowledge good behavior by motorist. A friendly wave, a thumbs up, tip of the helmet etc go a long way it promoting harmony between cyclist and motorist. At all times be courteous. Do not give motorist or pedestrians, for that matter, anymore reasons to hate cyclist.

Comments?

That's the essential for all road users at all times.

And to assist in keeping that in mind, always remember we share the road space, we don't compete for it for it's not there to be won.
Amen :)

I give up. Can' even post a video link now.
Thanks for telling us that.:p
Not to worry I have a video of my own to watch (box set of Shaun the Sheep)
In a bad road situation I think, What would Shaun do if he was here? :) No more road rage.

I am a much more relaxed and happy driver if I set off on a journey with plenty of time to spare. I only seem to get agitated by others on the road when I'm in a rush to get somewhere. Not always possible to be early I know, but it generally works for me.

Was it this one?
I'm having problems on android too, but windows is working ok for me. I know you're web savvy Jack, so I presume it's a problem with the technique for the new forum software?
Copy the web address, highlight some text in your post to link to. Click on the (chain)link icon, then paste your copied url. Click on Insert to complete. The purple colouration of the link in the completed post doesn't show up too well. Apologies if you've done this and are still fcuked;)

I can't embed YouTube videos either, I am using windows 8.1 but I think its a site issue.
Tried Peerjay56 method and no go either, I suppose we will have to stick to clickable links until its fixed.
Just noticed the same issue for others on another thread you just get a line instead of the video.

I find replying "I'm off duty" often diffuses many situations. Weirdly it doesn't matter what job you do but they always assume it's a police officer.
I sometimes say "Before you speak be aware I'm off duty".

After my first 12 months of commuting every day, I was at the crossroads of giving up or changing my approach because I was getting incidents daily of left hooking or drivers just pulling out on me or in front of me. I'd even chased a few and confronted them but it was getting too much. This is a bit radical but I now go out with the attitude that I have no rights on the road and I expect every driver to do something across me and in the last 6 months I've only had a couple where something had to be said because they were really bad.
It also shows how different witnesses saw things - one saw me reach out to the car in front and pull it's rear wiper blade off where 5 witnesses saw a car go past me, immediately left hook, I couldn't slow down fast enough, hit the back of the car and grabbed whatever I could :)

That is definitely the answer and similar to what I've practiced most of my life. My version is to be courteous at all times, regardless of how others behave, but it amounts to the same thing in the end.

However I would never remonstrate with another road user, it's just asking for trouble. In a very bad case I would just report them to the police.

On both occasions traffic came to a halt with multiple witnesses on my side so I think remonstrating was in order. The one last week was amazing.
I was cycling at 20mph up a hill approaching a junction (obviously with assist) when a car overtook me then realised they would have to pull in knocking me still upright onto the pavement. The driver then started verbally attacking me saying I had purposely scratched their car when around 10 pedestrians came to my aid and telling the driver what they had done. She still wouldn't accept she was in the wrong and since me and my bike were undamaged I cycled on.

I generally cycle with the mindset that everyone in a car is in a rush and so will cut me up or pullout or whatever. When I come to a pinch point or need to pull out around a bus or anything I generally think "would I slow them down" and if I would then I don't go as they could just as easily not slow down. I also often find myself slowing down and even stopping for cars pulling out of side roads and then have an awkward "we both stopped" moment with them before on of us goes.

Roadrage is unavoidable tho as some drivers simply drive around in a 24/7 rage. When I can I let them past and hope I don't catch up for a 2nd round.

It's amazing how some really hate cyclists with a passion. I'm a member of another forums where in their Motor section the hatred is rife.
I'm not on about hating cyclists and if anything you will find the many who vent online are plesant on the roads. I'm on about the handful of drivers who as soon as they sit behind the wheel are thrown into a rage about everything so a short trip could go like this.

"**** key, **** parking space, **** car, **** passing truck"
"**** driving along, **** traffic jam, **** road works, **** cyclist"
"**** nowhere to park, **** space 50m away from where I want to be"

It's often why the first thing they do after yelling at you is pull away without looking and then bib and swear at someonelse in a car.

That's me when I'm driving - seriously - I hate it.
The only cyclists I moan at are those without helmets/lights/wearing all black in the dark and having no road sense at all.
Any cyclist meeting my own standards gets my respect.

While I want cyclists to have lights at night and generally be responsible on the roads, I tend to be tolerant of them even when they don't conform. As self-propelled people, I think of them as being another form of pedestrian, and they don't have lights and also frequently jay walk.
