Hi

I was wondering if someone could tell me how heavy and bulky the chargers for the Kalkhoff bicycles are. Is it possible to transport the charger on the bike and thus be able to charge up as you travel?

Any replies would be most grateful to a possible electric bike convert.

Hi Jamie,
I just weighed my charger and it comes in just under 800g. Dimensions are 170 x 170 x80mm (approx).

When I was last at 50 Cycles, I think it was Mark who mentioned to me something about a portable charger that was coming soon and that it would plug into a 12 V supply. He may even have said that it would work on a range of input voltages even mains. I don't know anymore. That was about 6 weeks ago.

Yes, Panasonic do offer a compact travel charger. We haven't had one in yet, but I doubt it can run directly off a 12V supply - it's fitted with a normal mains plug. It will be compatible with 110/220 VAC though, and it could of course be run through an inverter. The home charger pulls 62W, I expect the travel charger will be the same or similar.

Here are the two charger types, side-by-side

Kalkhoff have given us an RRP of €199 on this item.

Thanks for the correct info Tim. I must listen more closely to what people tell me. I will now go away and punish myself.

Take it with you

I do a 18+ round mile trip to work on my pro-connect. With a 18 cog fitted I get a range of about 20 miles. I could do the trip with one charge but I now charge up at work. When you get down to the last light flashing the bike looses it zip and appears 2 or so mph slower. I can also take a extra 12 miles on the way home. I am lucky to have many routes home. So take the Charger to work, remember that we have a 2 year guarantee.
