Just found this forum so apologies if i go over any familiar stuff.
I am on my 2nd e-bike, a Carrera Halfords job that i have had a lot of problems with, it has been in and out of the shop at least 4 times and yet again the brakes need attention. as it is my only form of transport this is bad news. halfords is not able to fix it until november. i am in stockton on tees so does anyone know anywhere else to get it fixed, or if you can fix it. if you can do this i have an e-bike that you can have. what say e-bikers?

Why not let us help by telling us which bike it is and what's wrong with the brakes?

i dont know if the brake pads are worn out or the cables are too slack. i'm not too big on the spanners and hammers side of things so welcome any advice.

With cable disc brakes the easy answer is to swap them with hydraulic brakes, you can get a pre bled set of NEW Shimano m365 brakes for about £70. About 30 - 45 mins to swap both front and rear over and job done. No need for wire stretch or kinks & no snagging of the wire.

For < £40 one can get a set of NEW Shimano m315 entry level disc brakes.

Both options cheaper then Halfrauds labour costs and all you need is a set of allen keys to undo and tighten the brakes, no hammers or spanners needed. And to measure the length of the brake runs to ensure the new ones are long enough to fit.

Nothing complicated work wise to swap over and far better braking performance.
The when all done you sell your old brakes on ebay to recoup some of your outlay.

There's nothing wrong with your brakes. You can improve them by correct adjustment if you're prepared to do it every week, but the problem is that cable disc brakes are generally useless. replacing them with hydraulic brakes is dead easy - maybe 10 minutes per brake, then you can enjoy consistent and reliable braking without adjustment for thousands of miles. If you're strapped for cash, just change the front one.
