Hit a pothole that talked my teeth. Anything I should check on the bike?

Hi all

It was a very wet day here today but still more enjoyable cycling than in the car.

On the way home I was right behind a lorry (I didn't want to risk moving up the inside). I was having fun keeping up as he pulled away from the lights and didn't see a water filled pothole until I hit it.
I think I might need some new fillings, as the old ones were fairly rattled by it.

Glad to say I didn't get a puncture but was wondering if there is anything I should check on the bike.
Please don't say 'the usual' as I'm too stupid to get any benefit from that sort of advice!

Or should I just be happy that I didn't have a flat - especially as my first thought was that is left my repair kit at home?

The first thing that comes to mind is to check the rims to see if they are still true and straight. If they are out of true, you may experience brake rub which will slow you down. Also, even if the rims seem ok, check to see if any spokes might be broken. Some ebike rims are really tough but a broken spoke or spokes will eventually cause problems.

Check the frame everywhere there is a weld. Look for cracked paint at the weld points. Better yet, as a percaution, take it to your local shop for a check over. Hope this helps.

go back with your camera / smart phone and a 12'' ruler ( the old school ones are the best ) and take lots of photographs...If you have any issues with your health or your bike then it will help if you instigate a claim against the local authority.

I hit a large pothole in the dark some 20 years ago whilst riding my bike. I came crashing off the bike and suffered a cut in the area of my left eyebrow. I contacted a solicitor who had photos taken of the pothole. I successfully sued the council for £1k. It was the first time in my life I had taken legal action over something like this.

As above check your wheels and tyres for damage but if there fine i would say you have got away with it
