Hi ,
Does anybody out there know of a gadget that can measure the gradient that you are ascending or descending. I think it would be a very useful device to bolt on to your ebike. It would give you a better feel about the condition of your battery or for that matter your own physical condition.

Yes there is such a gadget, it's called an Inclinometer.

You can get a basic spirit level design one that clamps onto your handlebars pretty cheap, the electronic ones (meant for building work etc) tend to get expensive.

Bike one reviewed: Tested: Sky Mounti Inclinometer
One of many places you can get one in the US: http://cantitoeroad.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=27 but can't find anywhere outside of the US that sells that particular device

edit: looked on eBay and saw there are a ton of digital inclinometer's going for £25 inc postage, *adds to gadget want list*

my thoughts are that with a bubble one its not going to be easy to get figures as the bubles going to be swishing back and forth with the rock of the bike and terraion...if i was going for one then digital but agian while riding it will be jumping about as roads are not the smoothest of places...

Thank you all,
I've checked out all the linksand given consideration to your thoughts on the matter. I'm definitely going to go for the mounti design. I am however interested if anybody is using an inclinometer. I live in a hill valley area and so far I've restricted my ebiking to the village where I live. I feel I could predict my range better if I gather info about the hills in my area. I'm cautious I don't want to land out where my battery goes dead from hill climbing.
I'm curious if other ebikers have used these inclinometers for such purposes.

Yes.

Using my rule and level device I've measured all the slopes in my area and do sometimes vary my route to avoid steep climbs when I know my battery will be too low for them to be climbed without it running out.

Could be Miles, interesting idea. Bank angle as well as gradient. :D

Somehow I could see some sideslip crashes happening during endeavours to beat one's own bank angle record.
.
The bank angle could be a useful reference on the way back from the pub...:D

GARMIN EDGE 305 will do the job. Cost: +- 142 pound.
Cool Gadgets and New Gadgets from Global Gizmos UK

I have a EDGE 205 will also work but the 305 has a barometric altimeter. The 205 is using the GPS signal to calculate the altitude.

You can upload your recorded trips on the internet. This was my first e-bike trip to work recorded with the 205, pretty flat course.

This trip was with a mountain bike (not electric) and had a lot of hils.
