Hi.
Good luck with the launch. Nice bikes!

Pity about the overwhelming use of black in the KTM site however nothing that can't be fixed. Still......nice bikes!

They certainly are attractive machines. The Macina Cross is already here in Swindon. 700c wheels, 8 spd nexus and hydraulic rim brakes, very neat package indeed.

Now that's a step in the right direction. Wouldn't it be lovely if some other continental companies also dipped a toe in the British market!

KTM have a really nice selection of ebikes in their line-up and I wish them well in their UK venture. It's a shame that our home-based ebike suppliers, with a few notable exceptions, haven't embraced this market sector.

Hi.
Totally agree however I start to shake when the trade describes the margins on the range as "exceptional".

As I said previously nice bikes; however I think I'll pass on my opportunity to provide any dealership with an "exceptional" margin on my purchase.

In fairness it is normal for any new introduction to have increased margins initially to gain a foothold in any crowded supply market like ours. The margin isn't necessarily an excessive price, it's frequently a cost borne by the manufacturer to gain that foothold, basically a temporary loss-leader.

In an area I once worked in, the dealer margins were normally 33%, but first time importers usually had to offer 40% initially to get dealers to bite. Conversely, "must-have" products that dealers cannot be without yield lower than normal margins, Brompton being an example of this in the cycle trade.

Hi Flecc.
I understand all that and routes to market etc however as a consumer I picture myself in a dealership about to hand over some £2k plus and then my mind wanders to thinking about the actual margin that the dealer will receive. Somehow I suspect that I and many others will revise our thinking and maybe that sub £1k bike we saw wasn't all that bad after all.

i guess it depends on what KTM believes is its market. In my case I'm happy to purchase on-line if necessary in order to receive a discount. KTM on the other hand just will not discount nor sell to any dealer that does. I just won't play that game.

In that case I don't blame you. KTM are skirting very close to breaking the law, and would be if it was shown they took action against a dealer who discounted. Resale price maintenance is illegal both in the UK and Europe and punishable with extremely heavy fines. Many firms including German ones have been penalised, for example Volkswagen twice, the last time fined 8 million euros from memory.
