Hi Guys,
Thought i would still pop back to the forum even though i practically never use my electric bike at present. You may remember i was going to sell my Trek FX but i have decided to use it during the winter months to save my new bike from getting ruined. Well on the subject of my new bike i am about to try this out, i know lots of people do not like this style and yes you are paying for British labor and novelty value but i love it and if it rides well then why not.

Why not indeed, I like it, a very sensible bike in every respect and sticking up for one's home market always has to be praiseworthy.

I really like that new bike of yours, wish I was young and fit enough to ride one!
Seriously though, there are some designs that have stood the test of time simply because they are good and people will keep returning to them.
Think of the Fender Stratocaster guitar, Zippo lighter etc.
Some designs such as violins, pianos, eating forks, trousers fit in so well with human needs that to change them is pointless.

Beautiful - looks like a bike should look. Every year I wheel my old Elswick-Hopper Stag oput of the shed, brush off the cobwebs and wobble round the block, just to remind myself of being young!
To my aged mind it seems that such designs have a purity of line, in the same way that modern versions of the Austin Mini, VW Beetle and Fiat 500 are but pale imitations of the originals. One of the joys of being old is that one can recall better times!
Aw well, Juicy Classics for ever!

Apart from the bar end shifters it looks very like my 70's (or was it 60's) Claude Butler tourer which is hanging up in the garage, sadly unused for many a year. Good bike, took me many a mile here and across France and Holland.

Thank you for the input, pleasantly surprised of all the positive comments and some very good points. If your not at the cutting edge of your sport or a pro racer and use a bike for fitness and leisure it sure does look like you cannot beat a traditional bike. Looks like they did get it right all those years ago and all we have managed to do it tamper about the edges.

In my view, you're absolutely right Overlander. We haven't really made many advances with the passing of time over bicycle designs such as yours. Classic lines and not altogether dissimilar to the bike ridden by Clare Balding in her TV odyssey, "Britain by bike." I can't remember whether the one she rode was the original bike used by Harold Briercliffe or a similar one but it made for quite a pleasant bit of television.

Look after it.

Regards,
Indalo
