Hi all
Just bought an old(ish) Focus Whistler from a friend which has completely converted me to electric assist bikes. I cant stay
off it to be honest. The only trouble is now that I tend to notice other peoples much nicer bikes!! I guess you always want to next best thing!!

Just reading through some previous posts, seems like a good knowledge base for a newbie.

What's nicer about the other bikes? The way I see it is that bikes have many characteristics: Generally, as you change one of the characteristics to make it how you want, another characteristic changes to how you don't want it. The goal is to find the right mix that suits your needs.

As an example, 3" knobbly tyres improve the grip and comfort for rough off-road riding, but on the road, the increased mass and the high rolling resistance slow you down and make your riding less efficient, not to mention the cost and frequency of replacements. The problem comes when you do both types of riding and can only have one bike.

Sounds like you are already properly infected... Welcome to the club.

Thanks to creative accounting I have practically unlimited budget for cycling. Money spent on bikes is money well spent. ;)

Ah I see. What you seem to be saying is that I need some more e-bikes so satisfy all the different types of riding i will need to do!!! If you could just confirm that, I will pass this evidence to the wife to prove my point.....:p

Tell her it's simple science. We can't change it. The number of ebikes you need is n+1, where n is the number you already have.

Nice Bikes are the best thing to park up and lock up next to,, the casual opportunist with an angle grinder will overlook your bike in most cases ;)

Also let your bike haul you up a few more hills you would normally glow red pedalling up without assistance and appreciation for your own humble workhorse will increase im sure ;)

I've found in my pre ebike days that I only really needed at most 3 bikes - a MTB, a road bike and a hybrid bike.

Then I entered the world of ebikes, and now I have convinced myself I need:
a mountain ebike,
a hybrid ebike,
a small wheeled folding ebike,
a cheap ebike (argos),
and one commuter/spare/backup ebike (my original/first ebike I cannot part with)

I'm sure the wife will understand. Show her your toolbox, there's more than one tool in there

The great thing about having more than one is you can be working on one, waiting for parts etc and still have a spare
