Hi all , just got back into cycling - thought I had better as just retired from quite a manual job ( average 14-16k steps a day )
I am 66 , reasonably hands on with mechanical and electrical stuff , so I am contemplating converting by Voodoo hoodoo 29er (2013 ) to an ebike .
I am also thinking of building my own 18650 battery pack - I am about to convert my old Bosch 18v drill to li-ion , so some spot welding will be involved .
Here's hoping this community can help with some of my questions

Hi Bernie . I'm in Launceston. Got a selection of conversions mid and hub drives if you ever need any advice

Update :-
Ordered and fitted Tongsheng TSDZ2 with standard 42 tooth crankset , 48v 750w . I decided against making my own battery as my experiments with spot welding 18650 batteries to refurbish my Bosch drill taught me that without a dedicated spot welder the results are very iffy.
As I am converting a MTB and some of my intended routes are quite rough , I thought the Hailong type battery on the downtube could be unreliable . In stead I went for a battery without a case ( Aliexpress - Aleivy 48v 20ah ) housed in a triangle bag suspended below the crossbar (£17.46 Aliexpress )
The display is the 850c which I was pleased to find has a USB socket for charging phones etc.
I will post a review of any issues I experienced whilst fitting under the conversion kit forum.
