Hi, I am currently building an electric bike, and have been a fan of the site for a few months. Using a mountain bike with Li-ion batteries, having a few problems with the rear wheel drive at the moment. Wheel keeps jumping out of frame! I have a 1kw motor at the moment, think it is too powerful. Will keep trying and keep you all informed. Jimbo.

Hi jimbo, Welcome aboard.

That is a very powerful motor. If the host machine has an alloy frame, then at least two torque washers should be fitted to the axle to prevent twist-out when under load. These should have been supplied with the kit. It's a thick washer with flats to locate on the axle and a tag bent inwards to locate in the drop-out slot.

For a motor that powerful, it would be better to use a reaction arm as shown on the link below, click on the photo to enlarge.
