I just had to share this. I'm sending a kit to someone who bought it on Ebay. I did the on-line thing with Hermes (like I have before), printed off the label and took it down to te local shop collection point. They scanned the label and told me that it's invalid, and I need to contact Hermes.

I dashed home to find the phone number. The helpline is 10p a minute plus mobile charges, which means about 45p a minute for me. Then I found their live chat. Perfect, I thought until I got the message below. You have one minute out of 10,080 minutes in a week to contact them if you want to stay up past midnight on Saturday:

But parcels2go are just a booking agent that then just uses the chosen courier to send the item and for UK the one it usually recommends is My Hermes.

It does mean if you have a issue you can contact them to deal with it though. (In fact My Hermes will not talk to you but direct you to parcels2go).

That's appalling. I never used them - receiving stuff was bad enough ... had a box thrown over railings onto the grass near the front door by one of their no doubt subcontracted drivers (in a white van) once last year. Just happened to be looking out of the window as he did it too ! They all seemed to think the property was on the other side of the road - despite a huge sign staring you in the face.

I've used Collect+ loads which works on a similar 'drop to pick-up-point' (a.k.a. local corner shop) system and so far never had any problems with stuff getting there. Smaller packages tended to arrive within one working day too. They probably all have localized delivery problems somewhere or other from time to time. But that online chat thing is hilarious.

I sent Hermes an e-mail through their messaging system. They say that they will reply within 24 hours. Guess what. They didn't. I can't find any way to contact them other than using their premium rate phone line, which will be more expensive than sending it by another courier. Anybody have any ideas?

Garry is right about Parcel2go being a booking agent, but you have a choice of carrier and price. I sent two tyres to Scotland's Islands & Highlands via TNT they arrived in less than 48 hours, I think that is pretty good service.

Have you tried 'saynoto0870.com' ?

I tried putting in 08712461583, which is a number on the Hermes site, and it came up with a whole list of Hermes numbers, including a couple of 0800 freephone ones.

I usually check there when confronted by an expensive looking number & find it often comes up with something cheaper.

If you don't have a landline I think 0800 nos are free from call boxes, or Skype.
