I dont think I can keep this laptop going much longer :(

Im not happy about jumping into the first generation Windows8 and the half tablet/half keyboard offerings......
plus they are more expensive.....
and plus I really just want an excuse to buy a tablet :)

I have read so many comparisons on tablets... and apart from the headaches its giving me.....it really has to be between the iPad and the Samsung 10 Tab....OR the Samsung 10 Note......

My phone is the Samsung Galaxy but I also have an iPod touch.
My instinctive loyalty is towards the Samsung though ......

Has anyone tried all three tablets and can give me some sensible unbiased advice on which is the best ......or at least the pros and cons of each?......please.....

Lynda :)

I thought Penicillin was the tablet for the girl that had everything.

If you can afford the £1, check out this. It just came on the TV while I was reading your post. Must be devine intervention.

Hi Lyn
If you need a laptop then a laptop it has to be... But on the subject of 'tablets' there's only one breed and it's iPad (or do like many other peeps do and buy something else then regret it and then buy an iPad)

Oh....so do you think that a Tablet cant really replace a laptop then Dave ?

There are 'tasks' that are more suited to running on a laptop where the program's are only available in a windows or Linux operating environment, and there are no apps written for the tablet, so have a think about what do you do and what you need. Mrs old Dave laptop gets very little use since she stopped playing FarmVille on it, lol

I bought an iPad in the Comet stock liquidation sale last week as Christmas present for my wife.

She uses a laptop quite a lot, mainly for surfing and email, so the iPad will do that in a more convenient and portable package.

I always try to get her something that I really want;)

But has anyone tried both......it seems like the advantage of the Samsung is that it has a memory slot and you are stuck with the memory you buy with the iPad.

Resolution is supposed to be better on the latest iPad but is this splitting hairs ?
And the iPad doesnt have flash support.

I think I am still edging towards the Samsung, but I need to try one properly as , doing a lot of typing, would I find only a 'virtual' keyboard a pain ?

Or should I just get another laptop................I think I am starting to lose the will to live.......

( but I am 'enjoying' reading about the best car/washing machine/breadmaker etc on Which )

What do you mainly use your laptop for ?

If its mainly email, internet browsing, playing music, watcing video then a tablet is fine.

For large amounts of typing (eg documents, selling on eBay), video/photo editing, then while doable on tablet they are far easier/quicker on alaptop.

As for which tablet im with old dave. Get a iPad (and right now in comet if they have any left as 10% off is normally impossible to get)

Its mainly email and internet browsing......I use my iPod for my music, kindle for reading and I will keep this current laptop in the motorhome for watching dvd's on.
I dont play games either.......apart from my Solitaire compulsion lol

Its just with the iPad Im not happy about not being able to retro increase storage and also the no flash support that is still niggling with me.

As for Comet, I dont know that only 10% discount is enough to give up any after sales support with the store although I realise I would still have apple warranty.

Im getting close though...at least I have decided that my usage doesnt warrant a Mac book Air.....thank god :D

At least all this 'thinking out loud' is helping me to reach a decision......eventually

I am quite drawn to the 16GB Nexus 10 - retailing for £319, £80 less than the equivalent iPad - but, to be fair, this would be in addition to the iPad I already have (and I pay US prices here in Indochina). I wouldn't worry too much about space, Lynda, it's just a matter of a bit of tidying up, usually, if you are getting near full up.

If I remember correctly Alistair.....werent you the lucky b who WON an iPad ?

Wish I could.....then I wouldnt be bothered about my niggles lol.

I presume that I wouldnt have enough storage to keep all my photos on the 16 iPad like I do on Picassa ?
And what exactly do you mean by 'tidying up' ?
Dont go getting TOO techy on me

a bit of tidying up
= get rid of all the cr*p, like films that you have seen and will never watch again, home made videos / pictures that aren't worth keeping and so on.

But if you just trash them ...dont they still stay 'somewhere' and still use 'some' space ?

I have to admit I am now leaning towards the latest 4th Gen iPad.............but still a bit  lol

Yes... But now your over thinking, lol

From a users point of view, once deleted the space is then available again to use for other things

I have never come even close to filling my 64gb iPad and if I got another doubt I would bother with more than 32gb version.

As for Flash even Adobe seem to be acknowledging its demise and will not be developing it for future android releases
Android latest platform to drop Flash support
