Hi All

Was just getting in from a ride and notice the 'control ring' which holds ON/OFF, +/-, SET buttons on my Kalkoff had moved/slpiied slightly so i adjusted it and have somehow pressed a 'combination' of buttons and i have lost ALL assist functions ?

Everything else works fine, can scroll through everthing, shows speed, cadence, lights come on, milage is the same etc, etc...

BUT for some reason i have NO assist at all and cam not increase/decrease it at all ?

I have played with buttons, held them, turned ON/OFF etc...But nothing.???

Anyone got any idea's ?

Cheers

Kalkoff supposed to be a quality build. What else do you dislike about the bike?
I have a Reise and Muller bought here second hand. Good quality build bike but aware anything mechanical/electrical can go wrong.

Selling it maybe good idea given it has impulse drive.

One thing I've noticed about my bike is that the handlebar controls do not like pervasive heavy moisture. My bike lives outdoors year round but it is only when it has been outside in heavy, cold, fog for a day or so that the buttons play up. Causing much anxiety! They either stick ON or don't work at all.

Once the fog clears, the buttons come back to life. I'm guessing the plastic blister type buttons are not IP35 or whatever, but will shrug off any amount of temporary water vis a vis, rain. It only needs a tiny amount of moisture in the bubble to settle on a track and you've got a short circuit.

The buttons are another 'return to base' item, linked to the bike firmware, which is a hassle, but in 2.5 years the button failure and 'self correction' has become something I try not to panic about.

My fault is definately the 'control ring'. I have looked into where it plugs the big LCD display/PCB computer, it simply has 6 wires, +v,-v,ON/OFF, +,-,SET....

There are ONLY 2 plugs, one for the Control Ring, the other to Battery, sensors etc

I was able to get some form of control via shorting pins directly on the PCB on the Control Pin socket, i have set it to POWER mode, and just turn off via removing battery.

I HOPE they provide a spare for this as the unit itself seems sealed, and is after all just a 'plug/play' part...

I am awaiting response from 50 cycles.

Cheers

Shouldn't have all this hassle. Certainly put me off that store.
TRUST ME, do not get one !!!!!

Lifespan of motor is only 1500-2000 miles as well, my self build rear wheel Bafang was MUCH better and is still going strong !!!!

NO DOUBT 50cycles are going to ask me to take the bike 150 miles to them so they can replace the WHOLE LOT for a £10 control ring with 5 microswitch's, a 3 pair length of cable and a little IDC plug !!!!

Absolutely ridicuous...I will make one that only controls the speed settings before i do that !!!

I have had a reply of Edinborough Cycles, they stated they need frame number/Serial Number to Enquire ? Plus it may need a software update.

I presume the Frame number is just stamped on the frame..lol...Not sure what they mean regarding Serial Number ?

Told them it's a Kalkhoff Endeavour S10 with Impulse 2 motor , give them links to control ring etc

There's a label on the bottom of the motor. I guess that's what they want.

Yea, i was thinking that, i'm getting this back on the road and building another, might be able to get my OLD faithfull Kraken back and upgrade it !!!

I have messaged these guy's who do replacement motors etc -

Was HOPING to come across a control ring, i have opened the original and can see where 2 connections had come loose....The PCB is labelled with colours, i KNOW what the ON/OFF is on the main LCD/PCB...

Can not believe they are not off the shelf parts TBH...

Frankly, this post has put me off all European made bikes.
My two Chinese bikes keep soldiering on, replacement parts are no problem.
Just got a new complete motor and gearbox for my TONARO, direct from China £265 plus £34 customs duty.

Hey Bilabonic,

The item you need is a KD170514013 (Whole new control ring + LCD screen) as it is one unit. To buy this is £169.15. If it's under warranty still, that should be covered.

Fitting is relatively straight forward - however if you lose the cable inside the frame you may need to drop the motor out to thread it through. If a company hasn't done this before - be prepared for quite a large labour cost being quoted sadly.

If you are anywhere near Cambridge, Peterborough or Rutland shoot me a message and we can try and help you out.

That's exactly how I feel, but we're lucky enough to be able to sort out stuff for ourselves. If you can do that sort of thing, it's very frustrating to have to put your problems into the hands of a system that doesn't want to cooperate with you.

Hi Mate, I do NOT need the WHOLE unit, JUST the control ring, it has 4 micro switches/leds...The 'hardest part' is that a BLOB os back silicone has been placed to where it enter's the Large LCD/PCB as in pc above...I REALLY appreciate your reply, the part i rquire SHOULD be available as it's simply plug/play...I am aware the maker's of Kalkhoff are NOT very helpfull with regard's helping, there is a LOT of money to be made by purchasing the whole unit as above (another cable out to pedelec sensor etc)....

It MUST be VERY hard plugging in TWO CABLES and a blob of silicone...

It also seems's ALL distrubitor's are CLUELESS !!!! Program or repace the LOT !!!

Total RIP OFF...

I will endeavour to find the connection inputs, i have traced the all the buttons, they are clearly visable on the control ring pcb...

Thanks again, much appreciated.
