I would like to raise handlebars a bit but don't know what to buy, so could do with a little advice plse....... It needs to be black here is a link to choice of stems:

Adjustable Angle Handlebar Stems-Bikes, Cycle Equipment & Cycling Gear

and to my bike spec:

Specialized Crosstrail LTD Disc 2011 Hybrid Bike | Evans Cycles
I got this the other week and really happy with it - Halfords | BikeHut Adjustable Bike Stem pretty good value for Halfords, but it's only for 25.4mm bars so I ended up getting a riser bar too for an extra £17 - Halfords | Bikehut Alloy XC Raiser Handlebar 25.4mm

You could also go for this - it supports oversize bars - Wiggle | Ritchey Adjustable Stem 31.8mm Bars Stems

Cheers,
FJJ

Thanks! the richley looks interesting as I guess it means I can raise and bring bars back a bit as well...Only concern is hydraulic brake cables being long enough....

thanks Alan, so the System EX Alloy Stem Raiser just raises it a bit..that may be better and it looks stronger. is the size right as its in inches not mm

Eddie, if you want to borrow my spare raiser to try it you're more than welcome.

It can raise the bars to a max of 85mm.

Assuming you have a standard and not oversize steerer tube it will be the right size.

I just called them and they asked me is it an inch and one 8th..I just read out spec from Evans site and this meant nothing to them....

The System EX can raise the bars by up to 3.25 inches and because it doesn't use spacers you could easily fine adjust the height on the road.

£19 on ebay :)

I find I always have problems and have to raise my handle bars from supplied stock.

I found it gets a bit busy if you use a stem riser and an addjustable stem. As shown that's a lot of metal and looks pretty ugly

Much better

The shop that suppled me the bike charged me £50 for their solution solution and kept my original adjustable stem to boot. I took it back, got my original adjustable stem and then fitted the bottom solution for £30 using parts off ebay. I had to fit a longer brake cable. The adjustable stem is around 110mm long I think!

Most forks like yours are the standard 1 1/8", only some really heavy duty stuff is 1.5"

Alan
My Moulton ones are 1" so I had to fit a shim.

Bloody hell Jerry that is overkill!lol. I have made up my mind and just want the short straight bar as I only want to lift it a bit......the angle will bring it back a tad also

Just a little

I was pretty disappointed that a shop would come up with that solution and think I would be happy with it having just paid £950 for the bike.

Oh and as I said they charged me £50 extra on top of the bike for it and kept the original stem.

Anyway as I said with a little thought I soon sorted it, took back the extra metal, got a refund and got my old stem back.
