Help Changing Bosch Display

I am fancying a change and stuck at home with nothing much to do, so yesterday I decided to remove the Purion and re-fit the intuvia prior to perhaps purchasing Nyon or even Cobi as both will fit on the Intuvia mount.

Cobi has crap reviews, and it apears Nyon is now working better with an Ituvia upgrade kit now available at a much lesser price.

Some will find this a simple 10 minute job (SW) but I dont normally delve in this deep, usually paying LBS to do it for me, but what the heck.. what the heck indeed!!
Anyway after some hours have past I finally threaded the Intuvia wire through and all appears to be in order except...
I understand that all the stats are saved in the motor unit and as expected the display updated itself to curent odometer reading when I turned it on, but Emtb mode seems to have dissapeard with the display reverting to Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo.
I find this odd as i was told the update was not reversable, so has anyone else done a display change after the EMTB update, or at least offer any advice on this issue.
I havnt actually ridden it yet as other events continue to conspiring against me.

Just one thing to check:
Purion clearly displays "EMTB" when you change mode as its done using dot matrix lettering.
The intuvia has fixed LCD characters in the mode section, so it can't change from displaying 'Sport' on the top right. But when you do change mode, it momentarily (about a second!) shows 'Emtb' on the bottom of the display before it disappears. Just double check that.

if its not that, then there must be a software update needed for the display unit microprocessor itself.

Just tried booting up in all modes and all it has at the bottom is cx performance line.
You don't need to boot up - just change mode and it will momentarily display it as in this picture when you select sport:

It would make sense the head unit needs to be reprogrammed so it knows how to display the 'eMTB' characters though.
I guess its possible that even though it doesn't display it, Sport mode might still actually work as eMTB ??
Give it a go and report back!

Except that Nyon uses a toggle switch to change the modes/settings on the handlebar control, and by memory (which could be wrong) won't work with the Intuvia set up.

I presume, or rather guess, that the plug and play socket might be interchangeable though, which would mean that you haven't spent wasted time and energy.

Yes. It looks like the 2 bits where the cables go in with little tiny screws can be changed to nyon. The upgrade kit seems like it's made to fit the intuvia cradle thereby changing to the nyon toggle controller.
I mailed a bike shop and that's what they say.

I have at last found 2 good reviews for the Cobi and onbike is going to be a uk distributor so am still considering...
Cobi really pushes my buttons but many others have had issues.
Delving in a bit I suspect a lot of it is phone related whereas nyon is more or less sorted now.

well given bosch has now bought out cobi id not like it if they all of a sudden dropped support for nyon and be left with a brick of a interface even if it does now work.

tho if you add in the cost of a phone cobi is lot more expensive esp if you use a iphone at 1k a pop.

i also dont see why the bosch display needs a cable esp for purion as could be done wireless with some sort of dongle to fit in to the motor connector and transmit the signal to the display and thus make it removable again.

The phone thing is only an issue if you don't have one and as the main selling point is utilizing your already connected phone then land line users needn't apply.
Anyway you don't need a 1k phone.. my s6 cost £350 two years ago.
Although as in most things like this iPhones are generally better.

I don't have a smart phone and I wouldn't buy a bike that required one to work o_O
I thought adding codi to this might make it a contentious subject, probly because most people over 60 don't see the point of or want to attach to our connected world.
I find it a bit like doing a crossword where you either understand the clues or you don't.
My current crossword clue is IFTTT.

codi is a good idea if they can sort out the software but for me if i crash it will get broken and then the bike is dead without replacement.

nyon is still a shite huge expensive brick tho ;)

Just slot the intuvia/nyon back in. Codi doesn't have any hardware changes to the bike and if you are carrying tools n stuff in a backpack or panniers just stick it in there.

I'm a long way from being sixty, and don't see the point of either.

They are just an unnecessary gimmick, and sales method to attract the foolish.

There are already several ebikes that I wouldn't want to own because of the reliance in what I see as marketing crap, and as the list of bikes being marketed with electronic gadgetry may grow in the future, my interest in even owning an ebike will, or rather is diminishing accordingly.

I suppose thats the same with most things tho.. Throw em about they get busted! Also with most things the repairers have gone out of business so we just buy another and let the fish eat the old one.
