Hi I want an electric bike to commute as I'm fed up with petrol costs for a short daily journey and have seen this kit on Ebay item number:171307087967
and wondered if anyone can advise me on a few things please?
I have an existing bike I want to use are the 26 inch front drive hub motor wheels any good?
What kind of battery should I go for if on a budget?
If the motor fails can it be repaired?
many thanks.

They're perfectly adequate for most situations. If you have a lot of steep hills, you might want to look for a different kit.

There's two versions: front wheel and rear wheel. Both of them are very well suited to the cheaper bikes with steel frames. If you have aluminium forks, I wouldn't recommend the front motor. The photo of the rear one shows a 5-speed free-wheel. I don't know whether that's the max, but you'll have a few things to sort out on your gearing.

You'll need a battery capable of at least 20 amps for the 500w kit, and maybe 30 amps for the 1000w one. Most of the cheaper lithium ones can only do 10 amps. If you know how to use lipos they're the easiest way to get high power, or you can use much cheaper SLAs, that weigh a ton.
