Heat shrink to battery connections? Blanking connections?

Trying to neaten up the wiring of my kit install, one of bits that looks a bit vulnerable to the elements are the battery connection bullets. They have a translucent green plastic cover but I wondered about heat shrink

2 questions - bad idea for any reason? What size? Never used heat shrink before, do I measure diameter and simply buy next size up?

Related to this I have 2 connections for brake switches I wont use, the wiring loom ends at handlebars with open connectors that will get wet - how do you protect them from the weather?

Heat shrink is usually 2:1 or 3:1 shrink ratio so just buy a size larger or get a multi kit with differing sizes, plenty on ebay for a few £££'s.
I use heat shrink on the open connectors, leave a bit longer and fold or flatten the end when heated.
Adhesive heat shrink often 3:1 is ideal for water proofing joints, I just use 2:1 and have no issues.

Alternative to heat shrink.. and remember you need a soldering iron or a hair dryer to fit . Is to use self amalgating tape. ..you cut a piece off, remove the interlining paper and stretch it around the area the top layer bonds with the lower layer making a pretty permanent waterproof seal. The only way to remove it after a while is with a Stanley knife.

Both options work, though with amalgam tape if it touches it's self then it can be a pain . I find heat shrink to be a neater job.

.. a sin certainly, but not a pain usually. However the heat shrink does give neater edges.

Years since I used this stuff - just wanted to check, looking at buying some 3:1 waterproof, it comes in 9.5mm 6.4mm 4.8mm, these shrink to 3, 2 and 1.5mm respectively

Assume you buy with the final diameter in mind but what's the preferred approach to that? eg if my connectors are c3mm diameter do I get 9.5mm? Or do I get 6.4mm, for a better/tighter fit - or does that risk splitting the sleeve?

It will only shrink down so far, once it is tight stop heating.
