What part of the handlebar diameter do you measure if your replacing them, is it the larger diameter area by the stem or the narrower section near brake leavers / grips etc

they are normally standard size, 1" in diameter, at the thickest part (middle where it's clamped). If your feels loosened, tighten up the allen bolts a little from the underside of the adjustable stem.

Nearly all MTB/upright handlebars are 22.2mm at the grip end.

If you want them to fit your existing stem, you have to check them in the middle. Contrary to what Trex says, many MTB handlebars are often 28mm (1 1/8") in the middle. All handlebars are 22mm at the ends

My cube bars have a 31.8mm clamp area and a grip dia of 7/8" or 22mm, this appears to be MTB standard for this year at least
The next generation of down hill bars are coming out with a massive 35mm clamp dia

his handlebar (Sport CD) is made by Promax, flat bar, 25.4mm in the middle. The adjustable stem clamp is also Promax.
On the Big Bear, it's 1 1/8 riser bar.
