I purchased the Carrera Crossfire-E electric bike for the full price of £999 only to find that the bike had been reduced to £799 just 14 days after I bought it. Anyway, I was gutted but I got over it but then a friend told me that I should contact Halfords and demand a refund of £200 so that it price matches the 20% sale price considering I only bought the bike two weeks before the sale and that I wasn't informed by a member of staff to hold off until the sale. I don't know if I am in my rights to do so because I didn't buy the bike during the Halford's 20% sale but according to my friend I am and I should ask for a partial refund considering I bought the bike only a fortnight before.

Has anyone managed to get a partial refund on anything that got reduced just days before they bought the item at full price? Please advise

If you bought from store, then pop in and kick up a fuss. If online, then either ring customer services or fire an e-mail in their direction.

I don't know where you stand legally in this, but if it were me, I would be mega pissed off and kick up a **** storm. Tell them that you have the whole of the Pedelecs community backing you up ;)

No they haven't!

Artmuzz, you entered into a contract & were happy with it. You should leave it there.

If the price had gone up by £200 would you be marching into the retailer demanding that you pay them more??
It was more tongue in cheek than gospel lol.

I still think Artmuzz should at least get in touch with Halfords and explain the situation. I have heard of similar situations, where the vendor has listened and met them halfway.

If you don't ask, you don't get. You never know, Artmuzz might get a handful of Halford's vouchers at the very least.

I purchased a new car stereo from Halfords a few months ago, didn't have the time to fit, so got their team to do it...nearest fitting slot was a week away, but I wasn't in a great rush, when I came to have it fitted, the particular stereo had gone down £20, mentioned it to the guy and he told me to give him my card, refunded me £20 + gave me a free air freshener!

It's always worth a try, retailers will often give way for the sake of goodwill. They know that if they please you, you will tell others and personal recommendations based on experience are worth more than any fat advertising budget.

I would definitely try to get some sort of recompense.... 200 quid is 200 quid at the end of the day.
Doesn't cost anything to ask and the worse that can happen is that they'll say no. I've always found Halfords quite good to haggle with, even if they dont refund you the full £200, i would be surprised if they didn't give you something.

Just before I bought my Ebco, literally the night before I was due to pick it up, I saw Halfords selling the same bike model at £320 cheaper than I was just about to pay to a competitive bike shop. I asked and they price matched against Halfords and I was £320 better off.

You don't ask - you don't get.

Does make you wonder what these manufacturers are knocking these out for.

I went into Halfords today to see about getting the £200 difference refunded and they agreed to do it :)

However, they asked for my receipt but because I got the receipt sent via email instead of a paper receipt, I wasn't able to present it. They told me that I would have to get a copy of the sales receipt printed out before they can go ahead with the refund. Hopefully when I go back with the receipt they keep their word.

Interesting. I was in a similar situation and bought a Carrera Crossfire for £999.99 a week before the £200 price drop.
I bought this online and this is the response I got from Halfords Customer Services:

Case Reference 02805106

Dear Jon,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the price change on your bike. Firstly my apologies for the delay in responding; we have been experiencing unusually high volumes of contacts recently and we are answering everybody as fast as possible.

We do not unfortunately match against bulk discounts. What I mean by this, is discounts that across a range of products rather than just one cannot be price matched after purchase.

You can see our price match terms and conditions here:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_14552_productId_945392_langId_-1_categoryId_null

I am sorry I am unable to help on this occasion but unfortunately we do have to stay fair to all customers that have purchased bikes before the offer became live.

Kind regards,

Ollie Glover
