I've been using a haibike sduro allmtn RC all off road use in NW England since Sept and have ridden it it in all weathers and fairly arduously off road. Within 50 miles one of the rear suspension pivot bolts nearest the deraillieur came loose and fell out. Replaced in double quick time by bikeshop24 (German based seller) now the bike has developed an electrical fault where it won't switch off and boots up as soon as the battery is fitted, this fault develops to a total electrical failure on its last outing wet day at Gisburn forest (my guess as an engineer is its due to water ingress to the motor). fault reverts back to the wont switch off fault when bike dried off. bikeshop24 have quickly sent out a wiring loom and display in order to pin down the fault (FFBS: fault finding by spares). fault still exists. So looking like the fault is in the motor. i'll keep you up dated. Anyone else got problems??

Surprised to hear about a Haibike suffering with rear suspension linkage bolts working loose. Not heard of that one before. Well, at least not so far today. :D

My first Bosch battery did something similar, and that was replaced under warranty. On that occasion it was a software issue.

I also have a second Bosch powered road bike that also has the same issue. That has been tracked down to being a communications issue between the battery and the motor. I'm currently waiting for the system be cleared and reloaded. Must get back onto it. :)

I guess that your issue is now going to be finding a UK dealer willing to support and test the bike. Sadly one of the downsides of buying from outside the UK.

Manufacturers really should be looking at their battery mounting position. The Bosch system certainly allows for a pool of water and mud to sit around the terminals. Not something that should even pass the design stage of production.
It was a welcome relief to see that the Panasonic battery on the new bike has the terminals at the top, not bottom, and they are also shrouded. 100% a better design.

Hi Gez, I bought a Haibike sDuro HardSeven SL 2015 Yamaha in March and ride it in all weathers too and from work with over half the miles off road and have not had any issues so far. I am up to about 1800 miles so far. I think you are right that water ingress would most likely be the cause although the controller and all connections between the motor/controller and handle bar controls should be checked as from checking down electrical faults on my off road motorbikes the cause can sometimes be something quite simple like a dirty connector or nipped wire. It must be disappointing to have a problem so quickly but the warranty should mean that your bike should be fixed by the bike shop you bought it from. They are designed for arduous off road use and should be able to cope.

Hi EddiePJ, when I read your comment it made a lot of sense. Both the Bosch and the Yamaha mounting points for the batteries make them vulnerable for water pooling and ingress. My Oxygen with a battery behind the seat post also connects at the bottom closest to splashing water and mud. It would be better for the battery connections to be made at the top to minimise this.

There is no way that this is a good design.

Trying to keep clean the sunken terminals that are built into the battery, is an impossible task. :(

I also never risk charging the battery whilst it is in place on the bike.

The hdmi unit is just the same. It wouldn't have taken much to design it to incorporate a three sided lip, to maintain a forward driven weather seal.

Hi Georgehenry, The shop in Germany are dealing with it well and have sent me a complete harness (includes handle bar switch controller) and a display unit in order to isolate the fault. Have been out on it today in grim weather off roading still works but won't switch off.
EddiePJ the Sduro suspension pivot bolts although similar to the Xduro are different, the shop told me that they had seen it before and been instructed to increase the torque setting (didn't state figure, original figure is 14Nm) I used Loctite when refitting and marked the bolt and visible nut with white dots so I can see if its loosened at a glance (it hasn't yet). Again the Bosch and yam motors are widely different with the bosch being super hitech compared to the Yam hope to get it remedied soon. Even with these problems I've experienced These bikes are out of this world!

i have a haibike urban with the bosch motor that is shutting down and displaying code 503 on the speedo, this is a error code relating to the speed sensor even though the magnet is correctly positioned and the speedo is working as it should, the bike is from germany so i will have to see what the dealers solution is.

I reckon that is the key to it. Without regular checks, any full suspension bike irrelevant of make, is going to sooner or later have bolts work loose. :)

Wouldn't have taken much effort to have had a hooded connector at that top and not the bottom.
Flip the whole thing upside down, nice little rain hood and end of problem.

Compared to my conventional MTB (Giant trance3 with triple clamp DH forks) The Haibike gets ridden faster harder longer every time and with the increased speed and torque and weight of the thing, it's obvious that they will wear out quicker than a conventional bike. but hey that's the price you pay for pure Joy by turning your local lung busting technical nightmare rides into dream rides.

Which German retailer or website did you buy it from?

Indeed I agree the way these batteries mount and their connection points is not well thought esp. On mountain bikes which are ridden hard.

I now have the RC trekking model but I doubt my use will be off roading. However the above picture made me think of ways to perhaps 'create' a lip in the battery/connection area and thus make it a bit more waterproof...

If I think of something good I'll post

I would put a rough wrap of masking tape around the base of the installed battery.

Bit of a faff for every ride, but I reckon it would keep the majority of debris and even water away from the terminals.

I've never really given any thought to solving the problem with the existing set up. I might have to give this subject a bit more thought. Watch this space.

Goes off in the interim to look for an old inner tube and two cable ties.

edit... I did wonder for a moment if one of those neoprene covers would work, but they stupidly don't cover that area. Seems to be yet another design oversight on what is essentially a winter product.

I have seen the Bosch neoprene that covers all the motor but that is only when the bike is transported. Not when ridden.
