Just a thought, if someone got just the tow hitch fitted, and did not bother with the electrics, is there any law about that, as it would save a bundle on the installation.I bought a second hand Witter rack from ebay. Its tow ball mounted and copes very well with my Haibike.
I you go for a tow bar one with wheel rails they are better but a lot more expensive.
I found it very difficult to find a tow hitch for my car, which is a hybrid, as it it not homoligated for towing. I eventually found a “ non towing tow ball” go figure. I wonder if this is going to become more of a problem with the prolification of electric cars or can you tow a caravan/ trailer with an electric car?Just a thought, if someone got just the tow hitch fitted, and did not bother with the electrics, is there any law about that, as it would save a bundle on the installation.
Plus, many here could fit the electrics if and when they needed them themself, its not difficult....
I have always had a tow hitch on all my cars since time began, they have saved my cars from parking damage a few times as well....
One Guy who damaged his car, wanted my insurance to pay! I paid him off with peals of my laughter!!
I cannot recommend the removable ones for that reason alone. Fixed is always better and here about 1/3rd of the cost!! You only trip over it the first few weeks!!
Two things we say in Germany, translation is mine:-
1) a car without a tow hitch is a cripple
2) Having a tow hitch is a requirement if you want to live in Holland! (Their cars and trailers stream through Germany every year!)

I am not a fan of electric cars as they have problems with power if you want heat, they have problems with power if you want cooling, they have problems with power if you need to go long distances!I found it very difficult to find a tow hitch for my car, which is a hybrid, as it it not homoligated for towing. I don’t own an electric car, as I said, I have a hybrid. I don’t have any problems with heating or cooling and I can travel as far as I like. I also don’t own a caravan, but I managed to get a manufacturers tow ball to support a bike rack.I am not a fan of electric cars as they have problems with power if you want heat, they have problems with power if you want cooling, they have problems with power if you need to go long distances!
Now you have pointed out a further problem that I had not even considered, especially as I also own a caravan!!
Adding a hitch as you mentioned, will certainly be a worry if the place you add it to, is not strong enough, so you may need to get substantial strengthening of the area to be used.
Maybe the manufacturer of the car has something up his sleeve? Have you asked?
best of luck
