My GTECH bike has recently started to run on max only. Won’t run on econ setting. Replaced battery. Same problem. Any advice?

Controller or display wires/pcb shorting out is likely.
Has the bike seen any rain lately or has the bike had any incident ?

Moisture is always a risk, I guess and we have had some remarkable rain. Is it a case of squirting a load of WD40 - and, if so, where?

The Gtech battery will remember the setting when switching off ie will show max or eco when switched back on. Try to always switch to Eco before turning off. 99% of problems originate at the motor cable, even fractionally separate. Disconnect and reattach securely. Might help hopefully

No use spraying with WD.
If water ingress is the issue because the bike has been left out in the rain then moisture may have got in and caused oxidisation/tracking between a pair of wire pins or contacts on a pcb, this shorting can cause the issue you are experiencing.
The only way of knowing for sure is by opening and checking components for any tracks between each other, the likely issue is within the display /pad for setting the levels. It may even be a broken wire or bad connection.

If by that you one means the bike has seen a lot of standing rain, then it sounds like a likely culprit. Unless of course something else has occurred like the bike falling over or an off incident, the electronics don't often go wrong without a contributory factor.

One thing you can do, and it's just about the only thing, is to check the connectors between the battery and the receiver.
