gradients on maps

Apologies for all these questions, but getting my e-bike has made me even more motivated to go exploring :)

I've seen a few of you post maps with a gradient / contour profile on them.

I can remember how to do this manually from high school (many years ago though now!) but these seems to be some clever software to produce these.

Where do you get the software from? Any pointers appreciated...

I don't use these personally, but I know that some members use MemoryMap which allows routes to be reproduced in many ways including gradient profiles:

many thanks to both of you - just given gmap and already got some useful results out of it. Of course not sure if the American(?) sourced contour data is 100% accurate, but it certainly matches up with my own personal perception of what the hills were like in the area I was monitoring...

I might eventually buy the memory map software anyway as I've always preferred OS maps to the ones that turn up on places like Google..
