So what did I say initially to deserve mr kit making snide comments?
To be honest as I see it nothing. The trouble is that what started out has light hearted banter has turned nasty and personal. Everyone needs to learn to take things a bit less personal and remember on the internet no one can see you smile when to you make what you think is a funny light hearted barb.

Can I suggest all sides stop this conversation now as it not acheiving anything and is not doing any one any favours.

I think the advice you're being given is about how to react when someone upsets or criticises you.
Take it on the chin or retaliate with increased aggression?
Me, I just take it on the chin, but then I am pretty thick-skinned, and in this context very confident about my opinions. You seem equally confident in yours Eddie, but tend to defend them more vociferously than most, and perhaps there lies the answer to your question.

This thread has been about the virtues of making bikes in Europe, rather than in the far-east, and about the perceptions of quality offered by both sources. There is a little ambiguity over what can be construed as "German" and mostly has been interesting to follow.

I would add that a move towards european manufacture is sensible during the next few years, but not to Germany. Transport costs and far eastern wages are both increasing significantly, but German wages and lifestyles are far too indulgent. Spain, Portugal, Greece, Ireland and the poorer regions within europe are the places to explore. Much German manufacturing takes place in eastern europe already.

We already tailor our bikes locally in the Peak District, but cannot claim to be "manufacturing in the UK". Our plan is to increase the level of local input until we reach a point when we can make that statement honestly, hopefully within the next 3 years.

As for R&D, we're currently working on a 28" wheel, vertical seatpost-battery, rear hub driven step-thru, frame designed by us, built, for the time being, in China.

Eddie,

I'm quite happy to be called Mr. Kit, you have called me.....and others a lot worse.

I have said all I am going to with regard to your comments, but look forward to reading some of the more intelligent posts that you contribute from time to time.

A bit rich...Does not really answer why you started this all with irrelevant comments though does it....then your mate the engineer (pause for laughter) joined in with childish "you ride a girls bike " post presumably because I ride a legal bike. So like i said you started it and as an advertiser it's you that needs to behave. I am not going to stand by and let silly remarks stop me saying what I think or prevent serious debate.....

.
The thing is, his anger spreads into other threads where he calls Dave stupid, John pondlife etc etc etc

Im sure that both these men, and most of the rest of us too, are able to shrug off these comments but at the end of the day.....why should we have to.

Even when its not personal insults its always a very aggressive snide response
that really needs to be brought under some control by Eddieo before someone else controls it for him.

......but this has all been said before hasnt it.....on more than one occasion....

Anyway, lifes too short for all this bickering, just take the hint (again) Eddie, modify your responses and refind your SOH and then we can all enjoy this forum without having to spend our time trying to keep a sometimes seemingly wayward recalcitrant child under control....my four left home years ago, I dont need any more...... :D

Flecc, now I wouldn't have thought of that,so what do you think his route would be Berlin>Beijing, with a mere 1200 miles onto Shanghai,or Berlin across the polar ice cap and down past Vladivostock, only 3000 miles further to go that way. Now that would be an adventure, battery recharge points numerate on either route.
Seriously what is a Grace bike doing in Shanghai?

Hi Dave, it was all a part of Grace's exploration of the Chinese market. They sent a bike out to Shanghai to be on an exhibition stand. An urban transport magazine became involved and took some images...

It's very difficult for me to judge Lynda, since I don't indulge.

Secure in my own perfection, I don't need to respond to personal criticism. :)

Is it ?
Is it really flecc ?
I would have thought a man of your integrity would have quite strong opinions when other members ( not just on this thread btw ) are personally insulted.
No one is talking about any personal critcism to you....as far as I know, no one has tried....
.
You arent normally so keen to sit on the fence during contentious debates....I am just wondering....and very interested in... your reasons for sitting so tight ( watch that bottom lol ) during this one......???

thats what happens after 22,700 (odd) sensible posts!!
Truth in that, one tends to be relaxed about what has been seen so many times before over the six year life of this forum.

Seriously though, my response in post number 55 of this thread was a hint about retaining good humour. I don't think online insults matter all that much, I've received a real battering a few times in this forum but after each one I'm still the same person that I was before it. Therefore it hasn't made any difference each time, the insults effectively being wasted words.

If anyone is satisfied that their position on something is correct, fine, no further action or response is needed. When someone verbally attacks, responding with opposition just strengthens the opponent's view and reinvigorates their attack.

After all, e-bikes are hardly of much importance in the greater order of things.
