I made the mistake of buying a cheapy (£10) wireless bike computer. After spending an afternoon trying to get the damn thing to work reliably, i threw it in the bin.
I'd like some suggestions on a good quality bike computer for around the £30 mark, preferably no more.
It doesn't need to have hundreds of functions, just speed and distance as a basis. Also i'm not fussed if it's wireless or wired.
Any suggestions???

So many out their for sale! I opted for a £15 Shimano wired one and it has been superb so you don`t have to spend fortunes. Mine came form SJScycles.

Halfords have a selection of own brand ones that work well. I use an 8 and 10 function one, wired. Price starts around £10

Cateye's wired Velo 5 is basic and reliable, the one stocked by most independent cycle dealers who know they can rely on it not to be troublesome. I've used the 5 and 8 models for years and never had a failure (the 8 adds average speed readout to the mix).

I just got a wired computer from Lidl £3.99. Cheap but seems to work OK. More functions than the cateye velo 8 that I also have on another bike. Just have to make sure the magnet passes within about 5mm of the sensor. I had to pack out the sensor as my forks are quite wide spaced from the spokes.

Something for the weekend

About two months ago Onmebike introduced me to this computer $10.94 Free Ship Black Solar Bicycle LCD Odometer - Wholesale US$10.01

Don`t be put off by price etc. I`ve had one on my kit bike for 2 months and it is spot on. Backlit when needed + solar and battery powered and the readout is superbly angled for easy viewing from a vast angle. Many features but the current speed is shown large on the right hand side and is just so easy to see when riding.

Lets put it this way! I ordered a second one that will be going on my powertrek (I`ll keep the Shimano on for now to compare) and lets face it $10 is what! £6 something post free:D

Try one , you`ll be pleasantly surprised

Thanks for all the replies.
Looks like most of you are happy with bike computers at the lower end of the price range. I'll check some of them out.
Maybe i bought one that just didn't like my bike

I think you'll find that the majority of ebikers prefer the wired rather than the wireless computers. Wired being found to be more reliable
