Not sure if I am being a noob about battery technology but apparently G1 is using Ni Mh battery but not Li ion

For my knowledge this type of battery should be completely discharged before recharging it to avoid the memory effect

However, from the G1 user manual page 40-41 says you should charge the battery as soon as after the ride to protect the battery.

Does anyone know what is the best thing for me to do?

Thanks
Pat

Ni-cad's are the ones that have a memory and need fully discharging.
Nimh don't need to be fully discharged

Yes, recharge whenever you like. Gocycle are not alone in sticking with NiMh long after most switched to lithium. Cytronex did the same.

Aren't Ni-Cads banned now. I know that we cannot supply them in our power tools anymore.
KudosDave
They have been banned within the EU since 2006, but are permitted in certain applications where their superior qualities are needed. For example certain medical equipment.

I bought a ni-cad electric drill from Aldi last year. Very good it is too.

Well Dave, yes they are but like a lot of banned things, it dosent stop them being used.
You can easily buy individual cells, cheap cordless drills and emergency lighting packs just for starters.
Also, I'm an old RC enthusiast from a time even before Nimh's were in use, in fact I think some folks still have nicad packs in there radio controlled cars o_O not me though, I'm fully converted to lithium :)
