Our Giant Lafree was bought new in 2003 and has been in the family ever since. It is a great bike but it has been replaced by a new Wisper e-bike and the Lafree needs to go. It has been maintained over the years and it still works but needs some attention so a knowledgeable buyer would be best. The original NiMH battery pack has had a Li-Ion battery upgrade, and comes with a Li-ion charger. The battery pack is still lockable and removable for charging. The bike still pulls away enthusiastically but intermittently there can be reduced power when going up hill, which may be down to battery contact wear, or something else. The Shimano 3 speed hub gear needs very careful cable adjustment to avoid occasional gear slips or noises, so possibly the hub needs an overhaul or replacement. And maybe the front tyre is a bit old and isn't as grippy as it should be!
I have fitted a dc-dc converter behind the saddle that steps down 24 volt to 6 volt so that the lights can operate off the main battery. I have also added a lever onto the gear change grip-shift to make it easier to change gear for people with weak hands.
The bike is available for collection in the Bristol area. Any questions, please ask. I would like £50 for it.
