Hi. I have for sale a Giant Escape R8 bike with the excellent and well thought of Cyclezze hub motor conversion, the bike was built for commuting. The bike has 8 speed nexus hub gears, Kona P2 forks with powerful Avid BB7 disc brakes on the front and Shimano drum on the rear. Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres.
It is a 53cm frame with step over height of 77cm.

The fitted kit comprises of a front hub motor (hub motor is only 6 months old) it is a Pedelec only set up, no throttle is fitted you have to pedal to make it go. However it also has the assist factor control on the handlebars so you can infinitely vary the power delivered from zero to full to exactly suit the effort you want to put in. This motor has bags of torque and will tackle the steepest of hills. If you know Whitby in Yorkshire I rode the bike on assist on the road beside the Abbey steps.

Also fitted is the Cycle Analyst LCD readout which as well as your speed gives a multitude of other information such as watts and amps used. It's a large easy to read screen and is illuminated. http://www.ebikes.ca/product-info/grin-products/cycle-analyst.html

The removable battery is locked into the ezee pannier rack and can be carried on or off the bike.

Powerful LED lights are fitted front and rear which are powered from the main battery and controlled by a switch below the anaylist.

The whole kit is 2 1/2 years old and the base bike 5 years old. As can be seen in the pictures the battery still takes a full charge and although it's range is not what it was will still do a 2/3 power run of 20 miles with ease. The battery has been well cared for and was correctly conditioned on its first uses.

This is a great ride perhaps more suited to a sportier rider as the stem is quite low but I guess a higher stem could be fitted if you fancy a more upright position.

I am located about 10mins from junc. 26 of the M1 near ikea and I am happy to take you out for ride on some local hills so you can see for yourself how well this bike performs.

Any bad points? Yes a few, there is general wear and tear on all components of the bike, the hub gears still work fine. The bottom bracket has a small amount of play as do the pedals. The right button on the cycle analyst is faulty so you have to use the left button to scroll this means you can't alter any settings as its needed for that. It might need some contact cleaner.

Why am I selling it? I use the bike as my main daily commute and have brought a new bike.

Full spares back up and technical support is available for Cyclezze

The price? £480 will buy you a great ebike with a nearly new motor. Come and try it, you won't be disappointed!

Ah, but we need a bit of form to go with the function. Mudguards - often so necessary but often so ugly! Some fresh thinking on the problem would be very welcome.

Agreed MFJ, but as yet I haven't seen mudguards that function well and look 'sexy';)

The guards were a £5 bargain from the Raleigh factory sale! Having ridden them for around 2 years in all weathers I can report that they actually work very well. What you can't see on the pictures is a small bead formed in the extrusion on the edge of the guards on the wheel side and this seem to keep the water inside the guard surprisingly well. It's never going to do it as well as a full guard I guess. The finish as you can see has stayed pretty good as well.
