Looking at maybe getting a Gepida Berig 1000, took one out for test ride and did quite like it, also tried a new model Batribike Granite, and Freego Hawk, didnt like the Hawk that much but suprised at how comfortable and easy to ride the Granite was, partner has just bought a Batribike Diamond. I like the build quality of the Gepida, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of owners reviews etc, its almost £2000 against £1000 for the Batribike,i think it would take a bit of getting used to the crank style of the Gepida. The main issue i have with the Batribike is build quality, it looks good now, not convinced its made to last though. Anyone got any views on Gepida. Not a huge range of bikes for me to try out were i live, prefer to buy from local dealer, against buying online, more choice in Bristol, but dont fancy having to drive there to take the bike back there should i have problems with it.

I'm in hurry to get to work, but a very quick reply as a Gepida owner (see which type listed below my name/post). I love my Gepida to bits - its a brilliant hill climber. However, it seems most of the money into making this bike went into the motor/electric parts. The inner tubes were a nightmare to inflate and when I changed them it was commented on they'd never seen such inner tubes and they were like something out of the thirld world. The bike stand couldn't withstand the weight of the bike and as to the weight of the bike it is incredibly heavy - so if your battery runs out (double check how much battery power you get compared to other bikes) its a very heavy bike to pedal when not on a flat road. That said I still love it but personally I'd spend a bit more and get a bike that has not cut corners on cheaper parts. Hope that helps. However, if there isn't such a bike then the Gepida is still great. But could do better. Bought mine a few years ago so mine is the older type where the battery sits under the seat post.

I might not be popping back in here for a while but saw your post and wanted to reply.

Must dash,
Penny

Thanks for your reply, i have looked at the problem you had in the Technical section, glad its sorted for you now. There doesn't ever seem to be anything mentioned on Gepida bikes on here, i did like riding the Berig model, but would have to put a more comfy seat on it, It was heavy but not much in difference to others i have looked at, of course the local shop rave about it, I'm not 100% convinced i should pay almost £2000 for it. The new Batribike model i tested was nicer to ride, but i didn't like the awful blue / white or orange / white colour scheme and not at all sure on components quality. Bristol is about 75 mins drive away, lots more choice, only thing holding me back is having problems with the bike and having to take it back to Bristol. My partner bought a Batribike Diamond in a nice silver colour last weekend, she loves it, i might be persuaded to buy a Granite one if it was in that colour or better still Black. Thanks for your help.

I believe PennyFarthing's is the previous Yamaha powered model, while the Berig is powered by the Bosch unit, so they are quite different in a number of ways.

There's two Bosch versions too. The latest one has the Active motor with the small drive sprocket. The previous one has the old Bosch motor with the big chainwheel. I bet it was the old Bosch one that you tried. Penny's one is the even older Panasonic motor.

I tried the Gepida (with the old Bosch motor) last year. I thought it was decent enough but for £2000 there's quite a lot of choice - and in my opinion better options. I think you'd be better off with the Batribike.

I'm beginning to think like that, Gepida does not seem to be a hugely popular bike and I can see maybe there are better deals for the money. At the moment the Batribike is an option, the local shop doesnt sell a huge range, so I'm fairly limited. Prefer to buy local, definatley wont buy online, so in a way its prob going to have to be Batribike, or leave it for now.
