Futureproofing Batteries

I've just had to buy a new battery for my macbook. They last about 3 years, and then they die, catastrophically. It made me think about Betty (my Wisper 905 City) and what will happen when her battery dies. Its going to be an expensive process...!

Battery technology is evolving as well, and I'd like to hear if Wisper can give us any insight about how they might look at retrofitting newer technologies into what will be our older bikes, as well as how they see providing replacement/reconditioned batteries.

I know there are a _lot_ of imponderables in this, but it would be nice to mnow if it was being thought about.

Hi Wonderpup,

Good question!

The simple answer is that we will be keeping the same connection system on all our bike with batteries mounted behind the down tube.

As long as we keep to 36V any new battery will run as well through the system as the one you have at the moment.

As far as tech is concerned we will be carrying on along the lithium rout for the time being although we are looking at Bi Polar lead acid batteries as a less expensive option. The lead acid cells will be fitted into our existing boxes and being 36V will work perfectly.

All the best

David

Thanks David!

Colour me a happy wisper owner: thank you very much for your response.

Since you mention lead batteries, they have got a lot of stick in China for using them, and then not disposing of them appropriately. You are probably way ahead of me on this, but a rebate or some kind of scheme from the manufacturer to take care of old batteries would probably sit well with the environmentally conscious amongst us.

Yes, if you ever need a new Wisper battery we offer a £50.00 discount from a new Lithium battery on the return of your used battery.

I we decide to proceed with the new cassette Bipolar lead acid batteries, we will offer a similar scheme.

Best regards

David
