Some post European election positioning here for any member states that might have wanted to adjust vehicle regulation frameworks as is apparently expected. The EU industry has drilled down on what it sees as an e-bike and it's noteworthy that it's suggesting a new framework for multi-track cargo bikes:

"support ratio of 1:4 and"

Totally unacceptable! Such low levsl of assistance would make ebiking less inclusive for the elderly, the infirm, and those who need to arrive at work sweat free.

"support ratio of 1:6 possible up to max. 15 km/h and"

Everyone will have to buy new ebikes to comply. Such control would be inevitably bundled with "Tamper-proof" controllers featuring proprietary locked protocols - expensive and impossible for the user to repair at home. Sonething wrong with the controller? Dealer charges a fee for diagnostics and throws the whole thing away. Is the controller inside the motor? Throw the motor away too while you're at it. BMS shows an error? Throw it and the battery away. I'm completely against this. Distictly wasteful and deeply ungreen.

"max. assistance power of 750 W at the drive wheel and"

What do they mean by this exactly? Are they going to speficy different powers for different wheel sizes? Mine's only 720W at the crank, but delivers substantially more power to the road via my 20" wheeled folding bike's driven wheel, than a 29er's would.

"max. weight of 250 kg for single-track EPAC (like a Tern GSD)
max. weight of 300 kg for multi-track EPAC (like a four-wheel Eav cargo bike)
Separate framework conditions and parameters must be defined for cargo bikes weighing more than 300 kg (see EN 17860-4:2025"

Amazon's etc. dangerous and ludicrously dangrous pavement going, dog, child and other wildlife flattening cargo ships should be immediately banned from everywhere but the road.

Are they a trade body that makes recommendations to their members or are they a lobbying group or both? Basically, they want torque sensor sytems only, that's going to exclude a load of weaker riders from having ebikes. First, they went after throttles, now it's bikes that have independently adjustable power. This is what happens when you have politicians, salesmen and sports stars running the show instead of engineers. They clearly haven't a clue how ebikes work. Also, they mention 1000w output for the DJI, which would be around 36 amps from the battery. I don't believe it.

It's like this shiz was written by Bosch! Irked into lobbying by DJI's new "1000W" motor offering.

"max. weight of 250 kg for single-track EPAC (like a Tern GSD)"

A tern GSD doesn't weigh 250kg! Does that include the weight of Rapid Fatso? That combo would weigh far more than that! Is being morbidly obese about to become illegal on ebikes? Fat people want to get fit too.

I think you're right. They've been upstaged and they don't like it.

Fatso wasn't even pedalling. No wonder he's fat. When the police confiscate his bike because of the throttle, he'll have to get a pedal assist one, then he'll be cured, like you were.

I think you'll find that the 20" wheel gives more torque at the drive wheel, but not more power.

If you're using the same mid-motor model, there's 23% more torque where a 20" wheel meets the road than a 26", with drivetrains being equal.

My guess is Bosch is about to release a 900W mid-motor. I've checked the chicken entrails twice.
