Hi. My name is steve and I live in Exeter,Devon.4 months ago I bought a Freego Eagle and it's brilliant I regulary ride down to Tiegnmouth to see my mother and with a bit of riding in both places it works out at 40/45 miles which it does with no problem and it's very hilly,I also ride 10 mile to work and 10 miles back but I have had a reoccurring problem which is the s/steel spokes on the rear wheel keep breaking !! it's been back to the dealer (which have been brilliant) to have the spokes replaced about 3 times the last time I had 5 spokes go in one day which punctured the tube?, I now have the bike back and it has a new rim & longer spokes with my motor fitted and as yet there is no problem but has anyone else had the same problem???, I have also phoned the importer/main dealer once and emailed them 3 times but no respoce at all.

Many e-bikes have suffered this problem on their motor wheel Steve, and most often the solution is a good complete rebuild of the wheel. You may find with that done now it will be the end of the problem.

Modern factory built wheels, often part built and trued by machines, can fall short of the necessary standards. Ordinary bikes can get away with that, but the extra stresses imposed by the hub motor drive can be just a bit too much for a mediocre build standard.

SJS cycles (among others) are very good at rebuilding motor wheels, they have rebuilt mine and others on here and the result were bombproof...no more problems

hi steve c i own a freego hawk and shortly after purchasing the bike i too had problems with the spokes in the rear wheel breaking ,freego solved the problem by doing a complete wheel rebuild with a new rim and thicker 12 guage spokes, instead of the normal 13 gauge.i would advise anyone else who buys a freego bike and has problems with the rear spokes breaking to contact freego bikes personally, rather than the dealers,to ask the freego mechanics to do a wheel rebuild with the thicker 12 gauge spokes, in my opinion, freego are not fitting thick enough spokes in the motor wheels to cope with the stress and load factors the high torque motors cause.i think freego should fit 12 gauge spokes in the rear wheel as standard.
