Had an interesting day at the Formula E testing day.

Mrs Cyclezee enjoyed it too:)

Firstly, it's not F1 as far as speed is concerned, but it's early days, top speed about 150 Mph from approximately 200Kwh.

Essentially there are 10 teams with 2 drivers per team and each driver has 2 cars.

Right now they all race the same model Spark-Renault SRT_01E, but some F1 teams are involved, Williams provides battery packs, Mclaren the electronics and powertrain. Only one type treaded tyres is used made by Michelin.

The 9 races in the calendar will last for 1 hour and so far the range is around 35 minutes, so drivers will change to their second car at half distance.

There are a few ex F1 drivers, Jarno Trulli, Sebastian Buemi, Bruno Senna, Nick Heidfeld et al. Also a couple of the fairer sex, Katherine Legge was happy to chat during the pit walk.

One good thing is it will televised on ITV4 with first race from Beijing on 13th September.

Some random snaps of the day, not quite good enough to call photos:(

Thanks for this information John, the photos are fine. :)

Oh dear, from the point of view of promoting electric cars this is dreadful, drawing obvious attention to the greatest objection in such a blatant way.

The designers/planners really should have aimed for a non-stop period, either with shorter races or larger batteries in the design stage. One escape route now is to have two half hour eliminators, each with half the field, and then a half hour final, after the manner of qualifying in F1.
