Yes, most Flyer models use the Panasonic unit, and they'll climb like that for ever.

Fine thanks Bob. The Kalkhoff is exactly the same, and no production hub motor bike comes near these for sheer hill climb ability, simply because they have no motor gears, so can't change down for hills. Now you know why I used one for pulling heavy trailer loads

That's why my advice remains to wait for delivery of these if there's steep hills to be climbed.

Of course Tony !
The best comes to those who wait.
I love the handlebars on the flyer. Whats the style and function ?

Comfort and multi-position handhold. Low straight narrow bars with brakes handy for fast riding, and relaxed angled higher level grip for more leisurely use.

I wonder if I would be better of with a hub-motor under my relatively flat conditions? It's not like Holland though. The goal is that I get in much better shape, not to ride an electric moped.

A hub motor is theoretically better in efficiency terms in flat conditions. The Panasonic unit drives through the gearhub at all times, so any efficiency loss there is suffered by the motor. Since riding on the flat is at full or near full speed, the gear is indirect on a gear drive motor so there's typically an 84% to 86% efficiency at the gearhub, so a further loss to add to the motor unit's intrinsic loss.

A wheel hub motor has only it's primary loss with drive straight to the road.

However, the implementation is important, and the Panasonic implementation is remarkably good, giving a degree of free rolling cycling that's almost unique in e-biking. Testers liken it to an ordinary bike in every way for cycling.

And the Panasonic is better for getting into shape, since you have to contribute and you can precisely select how much.

For me in laymans terms. When I tested the Torq and the Agattu.

With the Torq I really didnt have to pedal and I felt like I was being towed by a rope from the front.

With the Agattu I had to pedal, but when I did it felt like someone or something had hold of my seat and they were pushing me from behind, or helping me !

Hope that helps anyone that wants to know what the different is..
