I have been thinking of fitting some permanent lighting to my old 36 volt bike and was just wondering how this can be achieved? There isn't any outlet wiring at the controller box so do I have to fit some standard lights, run direct wiring via a switch to the battery and try to locate some 36 volt bulbs to suit.? Has anyone ever done this and maybe have any advice please?

I have had such lights and also been on the bike, in the dark, when the battery circuitry decides that the battery is so discharged, that no more power can be supplied to anything! Not funny in the forest in total darkness, nor riding through the village with no lights at all!
Since then I use lights front and back, with their own batteries, that I charge separately - far less often than the main battery needs recharging!
The rear light has a USB charging socket and a built in alarm, with a sensitive vibration sensor and a remote control. Costing less that 15 UK Pounds on ebay!
I find its a far better solution than using the main battery....And I do believe cheaper than your intention, and far quicker to install.
Though having both (assuming the bike was made with lights in the first place!), may be even better.
By the way, modern LED lighting does not take much power from the main battery, though of course there is a tiny bit less available for the motor!
I hope this assists you further.
Andy
PS. I forgot to mention, lights are sold to allow operation on 36 volt (and other voltages) as standard for e-bikes.

On my commute/town bike I have fitted 36v lights front and rear fortunately my KT controller has light output so wiring up is simpler.
Even without light output you can splice in to the feed wires between battery and controller and fit an line fuse if required.
This lamp has it own switch on the back and apparently meet STVZO regs, and works with 6v to 72v input.
