Have just received a kit and battery from BMS Battery and have installed it on my old Marin Mount Vison. At the moment I have only installed the hand throttle just to see what it is like and to make sure it all works ok.

Fantastic!

Just completed a run to the local Post Office, the nearest being 2 miles away at the bottom of a hill. Down hill most of the way there so did not seem any different. However, on way back was into the wind and uphill with a steep section of uphill to get into my village.....wow!! No problems at all! Did a little peddling to help the bike but would have gone up (slowly) without my help I think. Car drivers overtaking must have though that I am really fit as I was flying up hill when I peddled. No effort or sweat from me at all.

I think the e-bike will help me get back into cycling and to use the bike for short journeys rather than the car...that's the plan anyway.

Only one problem, as the Mount Vision is a full suspension bike I think I will have problems fitting a pannier to carry shopping etc (I could fit a seat post bar but they do not take heavy loads)....any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I just use a hold-all type bag over my shoulder and I can get loads of shopping in - more than most panniers. I wouldn't do it on a normal electric bike because it would be too unstable, but the BPM motor gives so much power that you don't need any effort to pedal, so it's easy to balance and concentrate on controlling the bike - even one-handed. You might want to think about the additional potentiometer throttle cruise control, which works better than the pedal sensor to dial in the right amount of power but you need at least one brake cut-off for safety.

Edit: Sorry, I made an assumption that you got the BPM motor. Is that right, or did you go for the 250w one

I fitted the 250w K5 kit...my first ebike so really did not know what to expect and thought I should at least try and stay legal.

I can use a rucksack for carrying shopping but have a steep hill to climb to get back home. Otherwise I suppose I can use a combination of a front basket and a rear beam pannier rack. I won't be going far with shopping as shops are only a mile or so away (at the bottom of the hill!!)

Sorry, I got you mixed up with someone else. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your bike. If you do more installation, let us know how you get on and photos are always nice. How long did yor kit take to arrive after ordering and what battery did you get?

Order placed 15 Nov, delivered 28 Nov. I have the "Little Frog" 10amp 36V battery as that is the only one that I thought would fit the Mount Vision.

Am thinking about just having the throttle and not bothering with the pedelec unless I start going longer distances when I might consider it.

Perhaps two quick questions regarding wiring of the kit?

There are two wires (red & black) from battery, the red one going through the key switch. The connector to the controller has a thick red and a thin red; I spliced the two reds together and connected them to the red coming from the battery. Is that correct?

The wire from the Thumb Level Control has 5 wires coming from it. Red, Black and White go via a connector to the controller. Brown and Green are spliced together and sealed off and yellow is loose. Is this correct? At present the controller works although the LED lights on it do not.

May have found the answer with this diagram. I think I need to disconnect the thin read cable attached that I have spliced to the red supply and connect this to the spliced Brown/ Green cables on the Thumb Control. I then need to connect yellow wire to the +VE supply. That way the on/off switch on the thumb controller and the led should work? Hope this is right!

If you do it like in the diagram, the LED lights on the throttle will be on all the time the battery is switched on.
My preference is to use the switch on the throttle to switch the controller on and off, and also to switch the LEDs on and off at the same time so that I know when it's off. So I connect the brown to the battery and join the green and yellow together and connect them to the thin red wire. That way, when the switch on the throttle is off, the controller is in standby mode and the LEDs off. When the switch is on, the controller gives power and the LEDs are on.

If you want the LEDs on all the time the battery is on, do it like the diagram, and then connect the brown to the battery and the yellow to the thin red wire.

Alternatively, you can have the controller and LEDs on all the time the battery is on, like what you've done, and then you can use the switch for anything else - like lights. It's your choice.

Thanks for advice.......until now I have not connected the switch and did not know how to get the LEDs to work...only figured it out when I posted above. You have basically confirmed the way to wire the switch and get the LEDs to work...many thanks, much appreciated.

Once again thanks...have rewired and it works perfectly...on/off switch on handlebars now works as do LED battery indicator lights.....why could BMS Battery not have told me this??
