Finding my (electric) wheels

Finally going ahead after doing a lot of non assisted cycling for the last year. Got an excellent Carrera Vulcan that I’ve fitted BMX style handlebars to to get a nice upright riding position. Bike feels good. Bought it recently to go electric.

Bafang BBS02 750w on it’s way (C961 display). Is there any need to worry much about battery specs other than output and voltage? There’s a tempting 52V 13Ah on eBay at £240. 48V 13Ah seems to be from £260..

Is any programming or setting up required to go 52v or is it plug n play on the bafang controller?

I’m 15 stone in weight which is partly why I’ve gone for bigger motor but I’m not looking for astounding performance. I just want to take the strain off for hills etc and be able to ride for longer than I do at the moment.

The alternative is probably bite the bullet on branded cell 17.5Ah 48V at £400+.

Advice appreciated I’m not sure what way to go. Thanks

The thread title first read to me, as you are "building your first battery"... What ever the kit says it is voltage wise in its spec is the battery you should be buying... I believe (not 100% sure) most BBS mid drive have an in built controller the battery would need to match the voltage that is designed for. EDIT mainly 48v but check the listing or with the company

You need a battery that can give at least 25 amps continuous, ideally more than that. The cheaper ones are normally 15A or 20A continuous.
