After all kinds of delays that, it turns out, was due to a dead cell in my battery pack I finally have my kit build running.
New cell arrived from BMS yesterday, fitted it last night and went for a quick & scary test run in the dark.
Did first full commute to work on it this morning and I have to say I'm pretty chuffed. Took 6 mins off my best none-powered time, 12 off my worst. Wondering if I should have got the hall sensor BMP motor as it can judder sometimes, but on the whole I'm really quite pleased. I think I'm probably just a little quicker than the commute time by car if I average out both directions.
:D:D:D

Thank you to everyone that helped with suggestions when things weren't working, I appreciated the advice and kept me persevering with it when frankly I was sick of looking at it.

Glad you got everything working. Yes it can be a pain but once its all done you'll have learn't alot and then your be much happier with the result. You will also know how to fix potential problems should they arrive.

How far is your commute?

9 mile commute my averages are :-
Non powered = 46 mins
250w Ebike = 39 mins
350w Ebike = 32 mins

Really glad your happy with it and hope it makes your commute and general use alot more fun / cheaper / faster...

My commute is 9.2 miles one way, 9.4 the other (have to drop daughter off at child minder in the morning so I walk that bit with my bike)

None powered best/worst 30mins/36mins
Powered 24mins (only done one direction so far)

It's certainly cheaper than driving my rx7 in to work. It's really inefficient for the short distances; just over £8 per day in petrol to do 20 miles...

I have to say the torque on the lower speed motors must be immense. Mine will run at 25mph unassisted and it still pulls like a train, I think a motor wound for lower speed and higher torque would be hard to handle/borderline dangerous on a front wheel.

Some good figures and I find my commute is the same time in the car.
This is mainly due to me getting back into Birmingham city center with the car and virtually coming to a stand still most evenings that add on 10 mins.

The bike I make those 10mins up ripping through the center and mowing down pedestrians.

Glad everything is sorted though and some picture of the finished article would be superb!
It was a great looking bike previously so would be nice to see.

Sounds good peasjam. I haven't been around for a while and missed your earlier thread. Could you summarise the kit you're using? Thanks!

Sure. It's a front 500W/48v BMP hub in a 700c rim but wound for 20", 48V 16Ah LiFePo4 battery, universal controller all from BMSbattery. It's fitted to a 2008 Cannondale Bad Boy 8 with an upgraded front disc rotor.

I'm currently doing some cable tidying and swapping some of the plugs over to better (and waterproof) ones so I can quickly disconnect it all for parking it in town or having a none-powered ride. I'll post a picture up when that's done.

The one criticism I have is the huge amount of freewheel drag on the hub.

Matt.
