We pay in less and take out more then many other EU countries apparently...the little englanders will be responsible for a tragic outcome, read yesterday that they are considering 25% VAT because ...wait for it....tax revenue lower then anticipated, HELLO! It's lower because they have put so many out of work? And the banks that caused all this and we bailed out have consistently refused to lend and feed those green shoots of recovery, would be laughable if not so tragic.
And some want to leave us to the tender mercy of these types of governments.
Tony Blair is to make a speech and urgent plea arguing for the UK to remain in EU and fully integrate.. I think the EU have put him up to this because they know UK is moving further away and exit looks on the cards... also Blair is being groomed for a permanent president position within EU and has ambitions in EU commission...the EU probably sees him as a bridge to UK and way of keeping UK in the EU...but Blair's credibility in UK politics isn't very high is it after the Iraq war trial and his past governance.
His argument is that UK won't survive economically without being part of the EU bloc...in fact, no countries will against the vast economic and political power of China, India, Brazil which he says will even overshadow the US and become the future superpowers.. he says its a case of Britain joins forces with EU and we go forward together to take on those rising powers, or Brtain loses all its power and becomes an irrelevant poor country.
Sounds like scaremongering and playing on loss of national pride/prestige... I'd sooner become like Switzerland and shrink from the world stage and have much reduced military power etc, but a better quality of life, than lose my country altogether into a United States of Europe. It's inevitable that other countries will grow and overshadow others, just as the US and UK situation, where they were once under us, and we were the main world power. We had to adjust eh, as America grew ecomonically and over took us. We will again and so will they when China's economy exceeds the US. Would that be dire for the UK and other countries? I don't think so, China still needs us as much as we need them, and as China's economy grows and their spending power, so they will be able to afford Western brands and goods, and more Western talent, so it will flow back to us.
Damned if we do, damned if we don't? Who can predict the future? Maybe the EU will collapse spectacularly in a few years from now, who's to say? And all those who countries who remained in and bailed out all these countries will be counting the cost. Or maybe it will be successful and over take the US as the new dominant world power and keep China in its place.
Some might see the EU as like a step towards a Star Trek vision of "earth federation" type governance..perhaps the US and EU would one day join together....the ultimate aim of globalisation?...where all the worlds governments eventually unite into one organisation. Would that be terrible or a benefit to humanity I wonder?
