faster alien

Featured Replies

i recently bought and fitted an alien 36v 250 w kit to my bike.

i use it for commuting ,although it,s getting used for a lot more in my leasure time.

i have read on this forum that it is possible increase the speed [ or derestrict it] but this would obviously invalidate any warranty.

as alien has ceased trading i don,t have a warranty [ unless anyone can tell me otherwise?]

at weekends i have access to off road private land so can any body answer the following questions.

1. how do you do this ,and can it easily be reversed for road use.?

2. is it worth doing?

3. does it drastically reduce the mileage that can be covered.?

4. will it decrease the life of any of the components and battery?.

5. will it reduce the hill climbing ability.?

sorry for the long list but as i,m new to all this

thanks in advance

you can derestrict the bike by going into the LCD settings, usually by holding the + and - buttons down simultaneously for 5 seconds. Press on/off button to select next item, select the maximum speed and increase it.

hold down on/off button to exit.

However, there is not much scope for improvement.

Climbing hills remains unchanged after increasing maximum speed.

The maximum power you can get is limited by your 10AH battery, maximum current is about 20A, that will give you about 18-19mph on flat roads without wind and only for a short while, not much more than you can get at present.

unfortunateley the lcd settings don,t have one for max speed.

the settings are;

1. wheel size

2. magnet sensitivity[use 1 for external hub halls] whatever that means?

3.backlight brightness

4.display unit; miles/km

5.voltage mode; 36v/24v

6.idle time setting in minutes

it looks like there is no speed limiter on your kit, then it is already derestricted. You can't get it go any faster.

ok thanks for that.

that does explain one or two things.

impressed with this kit so far but then i,ve no experience of others appart from the occasional trial at a shop.
