An extracyle rear end kit is on ebay at the mo for £200, an ideal cheap option to make up a longtail cargo bike for extra carrying duties. Convert practically most bikes with a std rear 9mm drop out, the extrcycle rear uses a 26" wheel. One would need to extend the rear brake and fit a longer chain but that is about it.

All one gets is the rear frame with the deck and larger panniers, the rear frame simply slips in to existing drop outs on the donor bike and a clamp used as an extra fixing as well behind the seat post. The rear lhs side stay even has an isis brake braising for disc brakes.

Wow, that's interesting! I'd certainly be interested in a 20" wheeled version, but I can't find one... it'll have to be a trailer for me sometime, I think. Have you got any snaps of your Ute, fully laden with carry freedom (and it's new marine varnished board) attached? Or is it too early for those sweet sweet honey express deliveries? "Sweet Sweet Honey Express" would look god printed on the sides of the pannier bag?

I haven't got the Ute sorted yet but have been using the Cotic for towing, I will have to take a pic next week when I'm out and about.

One could use the extracyle with 20" wheel nothing stopping one doing so, the isi brake braising will be the same for any disc braked bike wheel. All it means it the wheel clearance is optimises for a 26" dia wheel and not a 700c.

I did wonder about that and a 20" wheel, and the rear dropout width (mine's 135mm) - but it's been bought... for my V-brakes, those would have needed moving, or I'd have had to install a disc brake just for the back:

It's is a clever little addon and came about before proper longtails were thought of from the major brands and as a very cheap option, they are no longer produced.
It's a shame more brands don't make them as for a lot folks they would be a very good solution for shopping needs or carrying kids to school.
The Ute is no longer in production as Kona has ceased it, before the Ute came along Trek also made a very useful transporter cargo bike in the same guise. Surly and Yuba are now the main players in the larger wheel size bikes, though there are 3 or four options for 20" wheeled cargo bikes.

Something else which also gave me pause, was the lack of measurements - my bike is has a slightly shorter wheelbase and I'd have to be certain that sort of addition would bolt on securely. My bike might have looked cool and rakish with with 26" at the back and 20" at the front. It does look like a great product though for the right bike, and it's a pity that there aren't many products like this sold new. A trailer added to the back of a bike fitted with something like that product, plus Peter.c's two wheeled Trejo at the front would maximise cargo carrying options, and the legal 250W limit would reduce it's carrying capacity.

A proper xtracycle 20" wheeled cargo bike on ebay at the mo, starting at a tenner. It needs a few bits added to maka runner such as a drive train and brakes but otherwise is complete.
Start bid is £10 with no bidders yet.
I reckon for under £200, all one then needs is a after market mid drive or a nice front hub for a damn good hauler.

That looks great! And yet again - no delivery! Otherwise someone transporting samphire grass in the Outer Hebrides would be paying far more than £200! I'd bid and collect by train, but I don't have the space for it :(

Especially if bought for around £200! Maybe someone on thesee boards saw it and snapped it up? We'll know, if they have problems installing a motor kit...
