December 10, 20169 yr EddiePJ's "Alien" elbow is a good one. If you mountain bike you will fall off, the trouble is when you get older it takes longer to repair.
December 10, 20169 yr If you mountain bike you will fall off I haven't fallen off the bikes yet. Their motors are more reliable than my last one.

December 10, 20169 yr EddiePJ's "Alien" elbow is a good one. If you mountain bike you will fall off, the trouble is when you get older it takes longer to repair. Sadly things have recently got worse for me. It turns out that my fall a month or so ago, has shattered part of my knee cap, and I now seemingly have a big hole in it! Despite pain at the time, I rode without knowing about the injury for roughly the last 27 miles of the ride on the day, and have been riding with the injury ever since, simply because there has not been any pain or discomfort. It is only over the last week that things have come to head after doing some ladder work, and my knee now also looks like the alien elbow. Other than fluid on the knee and burning pain, there is still no major pain which is very odd, but it has certainly spoilt the chances of getting out for a ride over the last week and foreseeable future. SW has a valid point about wearing protective items when riding off road, even if it just elbow and knee pads. I have set of Dainese knee pads and the injury wouldn't have happened if I had been wearing them

I have set of Dainese knee pads and the injury wouldn't have happened if I had been wearing them I hadn't realised your injury was that bad Eddie. Have you now seen a specialist and is there a fix on the horizon? Once on the mend, gentle ebiking should be a good form of rehab, no? I've had a sore shoulder for the last few weeks after glancing what feels like the exact same spot off a tree a few times recently. I started looking at protection. I really don't want anything too bulky. I found this, could it be slightly overkill though? Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221947349702 The poc knee/shin protectors look good. The main thing is for it to be comfortable to ride in and not rub, ride up, move etc. Recommendations welcome Sent from here to there with computer wizardry.
December 12, 20169 yr When I was 14 (38 years ago) I was happily doing slalom in between the catseyes and white lines in the middle of the road my parents then lived on (A28, just outside of Hastings). All was going well until a momentary distraction (probably a car) interrupted my flow..... wheel turned at 90 degrees, the bike stopped, and I didn't, impacting into the tarmac akin to a soft and gangly javelin. At the hospital, with something roughly the shape and size of a chicken egg under the skin of my right elbow, several doctors were called to come and admire my x-rays, and congratulate me coz I had seven more bones in my elbow than I'd started with earlier that day Being 14, and banned from using my bike, I of course had all the lesson learning skills of a cabbage (an insult to cabbages!). So a few days later, I was on my way home, on my skateboard. Got speed wobble, hit a small stone, the skateboard stopped, and I didn't. Did exactly the same gangly javelin impression into the tarmac. That one hurt, so much so, I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, puke, pass out or what. I can remember my jaw shivering uncontrollably from the shock, but was more worried about cars damaging my skateboard as they drove around it. I stayed off of wheeled things for few weeks after that Gaz
December 12, 20169 yr Sorry to hear about your injury Eddie:(...on the plus side, I'll be wearing my armour next ride (I've been out a few times recently without it and your dilema has poked me in the side of the head), so thanks and all the best wishes for a full recovery chap:)
December 12, 20169 yr Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2219473497 Jeez, that's alot of money for a jacket Darren...I've got a Nukeproof body armour suit that's used by many DH riders and it was £40 in the CRC sale! And same as Eddie, I've got Dainese knee/shin and elbow/forearm protectors with the Ti bash-plates too...a full face helmet is also handy (Bell Transfer here) to stop branches taking your face off and I top it off with a Dainese back protector that I use on my GSXR1K road bike if it's going to be an "all-out" day:)
December 12, 20169 yr You know it makes sense:cool:...(excuse the tip, we're in the middle of moving house)
December 12, 20169 yr what is ur take on neck braces ? good or bad as tried one for my atlas and did not like it very much and the 300 quid price tag. i have broken my ribs so many times it looks like glass stuck together most part loosing front end and the handle bars spinning round sliding across the floor.

Get a Minion DHF ST on the front and you'll struggle to loose grip:D...the extra drag means nothing on an ebike;) I personally won't wear a neck-brace, the Bell is designed not to let your neck go that far and if it gets that bad I'm f**k'd anyway:D
December 12, 20169 yr i have magic Mary on the front now and not crashed since tbh tho look near the same tread wise just different make. never liked the look of neck braces tbh or the price ill not be jumping off any red bull size cliffs these days i might not brake my neck ill brake every thing else tho if i did lol
December 12, 20169 yr Tried MMs, Hans Dampf, etc and don't rate Schwalbe at all for balls-out MTBing...Maxxis have all the characteristics of mahogany on motorbikes and a really bad rep, but make the best MTB tyres...HR2, Minion and Ardent are the only tyres that consistently score 10/10 on all the review sites and if you look at a DH grid, you'll not see owt else:cool:...get a Super Tacky DHF and you'll never go back (I run mine tubed at 20psi - sublime grip).
December 13, 20169 yr i have Hans Dampf sg tyre on the rear x 4 side walls as was ripping it off the rim with a normal one. took me an hr to get the fkn thing on my rim tho but the normal ones like my front mm is thin as hell. i have tubeless wheels so low psi on the rear was a problem esp going fast round bends.
December 13, 20169 yr Yeah, the Schwalbe tyres are a tw*t to get off the rim out on the trail if you puncture them...the Maxxis (kevlar bead) fall on and off the rim once you break the bead and the EXO sidewalls are mega-tough:cool:...and the HR2/Minion both go tubeless, even if you get the non TR versions;)

And the ability to take some but not all on certain days not possible as it's all one fabrication. I'll take a look at Nukeproof. I just want something that I WILL actually use. Key elements being weight and bulk, if it's not comfy it'll likely get left at home.

Considering one for the rear now the wet mud is starting to build up.

December 13, 20169 yr Scott compression vest for me. Elbow and shoulder pads only, not the thickest, but definitely better than nothing! POC mk2 knee pads, comfiest pair I could find. Mark
