Enthusiastic and fustrated uk biker

Hi I am keene to go green but am unable to find a trusted uk supplier for the bafang bbshd mid drive kit including battery and all accesories. I have thought of ordering from luna cycles in usa but items could get lost in shipping. Has anyone got any advice so that I dont lose my money.

I've never had anything lost in shipping from China, and I've ordered about 1000 items, I reckon.

 

I would buy from Em3ev - their 52v one with one of their triangle batteries and a gear sensor. Their service and reputation is exemplary, so is the attention to detail and quality. You might find no duty as well from Hong Kong.

I know of some complete sets including bling ring and everything required due early May, ...but are you sure you need 1000W of power,? It's a little OTT for road use and far from legal!

I have bought Bafangs both from EM3EV and AliExpress and never had a problem.

With AE your money is held in Escrow for you until you are satisfied with your purchase.

I would have no worries about buying from overseas, especially from the likes of EM3EV or Luna. In fact I ordered from EM3EV a long time back, and that was after incessant questions about their products. They were patient and professional with me.

 

The problem is if you do have a warranty issue. The inconvenience and cost of sending stuff back to China or USA could take the shine off a purchase.

 

Would you not consider fitting a BBS02 instead and buying from a UK company such as Eclipse Bikes?

 

I've bought a BBS02 kit from them, plus two battery packs. The BBS02 and original battery is now out of warranty, but for my latest battery purchase, the remaining warranty allows me peace of mind.

Hi looks just what i need. So if there is no delivery i can recover my money? Sounds perfect. Where did you source your battery and charger? I need to do a 40 mile round trip assisted pedaling at about 15-20 mph mostly 80 percent flat. Any sugestons? Thanks

 

Pps would have bought the bbs02 but due to reliability did not want to push the bike 20 miles. Eclipse bikes however sound ok to me but have no bbshd thanks

You won't get 40 miles out of the BBSHD, unless you have a huge capacity battery, or reprogram the controller for much less performance.

 

You'd be better off riding a bike with a 250w hub motor. Reliable and efficient for your style of riding and terrain.

Reliability is pretty good across the whole range, save those that are overcooked via programming and baked by lugging great weights and/or generally abused (commonly these are stateside reports).

BBS02 could well suit, but if you're planning to use on UK roads and not adhere to the 250W max. rated motor law, then there is a compelling argument to go for the (by many reports) more durable BBSHD option.

Seems there's plenty of options available to you, and I think the BBSHD sets I referred to are pretty much all spoken for already. Also that's a month away yet and I bet you're keen to crack on now the decision to go green is made. Enjoy

Can't agree about the range there Ford. Mate uses one with 15Ah and comfortably gets over 40 miles between charges. It's the goons who use throttle only everywhere on full power that suffer range probs. with HD set up.

Still reckon that for flat terrain, a hub motor is a better option though.

Hi all thanks for your advice. Think I like the Alli Express idea with the escrow backup if things go wrong. I had planned on down tuning the controller so that it becomes more endurance friendly. I had thought that battery power consumption was only related to the current draw from the motor which if programmed to a lower setting would not use as much power. ??? But still getting the reliability in terms of nylon gear and diodes etc from the bbhd. Thanks

Things generally turn up, it's more a case of whether you'll get good support if something were to be damaged or develop a fault and how timely that service might be. It's all a gamble to a degree.Perhaps check Google and other sources for a balance of reviews?

If you pay any Chinese or Hong Kong supplier with Paypal, you're covered against most things, including non-delivery. It's worth paying the bit extra to get the better sorted Em3ev one. They helped Bafang develop the reliability of these motors. They're not your typical Chinese supplier. You get full support.

Yes, and are now somewhat miffed about Bafang's recent announcement regarding the investment into the European market and the big battery plant!

What do you expect? You can't claim for non-delivery if you signed for the goods! ... or are you expecting your next door neighbour to break into you house, forge your signature and steal your motor?

 

That same rule applies to Aliexpress escrow and any UK supplier. It's up to the supplier to prove that the goods were delivered to your address, not for you to prove that they weren't. They always send by tracked services, so there's a record at every point of movement. These guys are not trying to crook you. they're honest traders, more likely crooked by devious buyers. If you've ever traded on ebay, you'd be surprised by what they try. I even had a guy from this forum try to cheat me.
