Hello.
It's my first post in here, so I'm sorry if I sound chaotic. ;)
Few days ago, my dad thinking that he's buying actual bike bought this:
http://www.ebay.pl/itm/80KPH-48v-1800w-POWER-PLANT-OffRoad-Electric-Motor-e-Bike-Bicycle-motorized-Kit-/251668770477? (don't ask how he managed to miss "no bike or battery" print, but he did.)
There's no option to send it back to seller, so we're torn between trying to sell it or assemble it.

The point is... that's our first adventure with electronic bikes so we're completely lost when it comes to assembly, where to buy battery, WHAT battery to buy and what bike would we need for that.

Easier option would be selling this kit, and just buying a bike from a shop, but we have no idea where to put it up for sale and all.

I'd appreciate any help I can get, because I'm as lost as I could ever be :)
Thank you for all answers and sorry if any of this doesn't follow forum rules.

Ig you live in the UK, you can't register and insure this bike, so I'd say sell it and buy a new bike.

I don't think the OP has bought a bike, I think he has a kit.

Polish (I'm guessing) is not a language I speak so I can't tell much from the link - can you give is all some more details? Photos will help a lot....

Hi PN,
Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place. Don't panic! That is a powerful motor kit your Dad has bought. Do you live in UK? If so it's not legal for the road. Limit is 250 watts. You could sell it via the classified section here or on ebay.It would need a big 48 volt battery likely to cost several hundred pounds. It could probably be fitted to most bikes and some people want powerful motors like that. Tell us a bit more if you can.
Best wishes,
hoppy

Thank you for replays :)
As for more info, I think all I can do is post some photos tomorrow All specifications we know of are on the ebay page itself, that I linked. (besides page itself all specifiations are in english, scrolling down should work just fine. If it doesn't I can make some screenshots)

Yes, we bought kit only, not a bike and my dad seems to be desperate now to assemble it.
Yes we live in UK and I'm pretty sure my dad thought of "being slow enough on a road" I never heard about registering them so if we have to, that'll surely be a problem.
Is the "several hundred pounds" a serious price for battery like that? He's claiming he'll get some cheaper one and it'll work, but I doubt it.
What will happen if he'll indeed get a "cheaper" (weaker?) one and attempt to use it? Will it break some other parts? Be slower? Not work at all?
I'm trying to convince him to sell it, but he keeps telling me "noone will buy it". Judging by the fact it's illegal in UK, I can get his point, do you still think it's sellable?

Once again, I know I sound like I don't know about this stuff... I really don't. And I'm really greatful for all the replays :)

Hi,
Cyclotricity sell a 1000 watt kit and the 48volt 11amp hour battery is about £450.If you use a lower voltage the bike won't run as the controller will shut off. You can get batteries cheaper from China but still hundreds of pounds. You could use lead acid batteries for about£100 but very short range, about 5 miles, and short life and very heavy. I'm sure you could sell it. How much was it?

Looking at ebay, it was 543 pounds and 100 pounds for postage.
How much do you think we overpaid? ;)

And whoa, 5 miles on 100 pounds batteries doesn't really cuts the deal.

That's the offer we've got from seller when I asked him about return:
I am sorry but we really only offer exchange if wrong choice of kit size.
Now we have a promo battery combo offer on now.
I am offering it even lower price to you.
To add a 48v 12ah EDB 10C LiFePO4 battery ( 3000-5000 cycles ) $1799+175 post
My offer to help get you a very high end battery.
$1380 FREE Delivery (save $594)

(it's in australian dollars if it helps x) )

Hi PN,
I think it may well be a decent kit and the price was not bad. That battery is still nearly £700 delivered! There are plenty of people in UK building bikes with motors like this and not bothered about the legal limits! Have you got a bike to fit it on? I think you'd do best to sell it for about what you paid and buy a legal bike or kit. They need much smaller cheaper batteries. If you live near an ebike shop or forum member they might help. I would if I could. Best wishes,
hoppy

I live in Huddersfield, west Yorkshire so if anyone could point me in right direction of a shop or anything... I'm trying to find something on the internet, but when you don't know what you're looking for, finding it is hard x)

And if you need anything better than a regular cheapish mountain bike (which you probably do) we don't have a bike to fit it on.

Thinking that we didn't overpaid for it is a relief, my dad really thought he's buying actual bike and it made him really upset, so I have at least one good news.
Now we just need a way to sell that kit, because I don't think he'll be ready to invest 400+ pounds for a battery itself.

A reasonable mountain bike would probably be ok, but I'd try advertising the kit on this forum's classified section and on ebay to start with. Ebike batteries are notoriously
expensive. They have to store a lot of energy. But some of the cheaper bikes have batteries for 2 to 3 hundred pounds. Hope you get sorted with a sensible bike and enjoy it. They are great fun!
I live a long way from Yorkshire but I'm sure there are members and shops up there.Let us know how you get on.
All the best.
