My 20 amp hour Ping is good for 45 miles, that's on a heavy bike, carrying over 100Kgs of me at high speed over a hilly commute. I woudn't buy so much capacity again.

Mounted on a box on rear carrier. Unwieldy when mounting but fine on the move.

That's a good performance..do you use pedal assist at highest power level?

I always say unless you need the capacity for distance/speed or hill climbing don't waste money and add on unnecessary weight with big batteries.. 10Ah will perform fine for most people unless you're very heavy and/or have big distances. Maybe for some people tho, with the cheap of cost of batteries from BMS they aint bothered and just like the assurance of having the extra capacity onboard.

I also have a 20ah Ping, which I find a bit on the heavy side, but just about bearable. Then I got one of these for my other bike. it can give the same power output. I tested it to the full capacity (20aH). It's much smaller and lighter and costs half as much, and probably lasts half as long, but I recommend it:
36V 20Ah Li-Ion Shrink Tube EBike Battery Pack - BMSBATTERY

This one looks quite compact for 20Ah, but its LiFePo4:

Only have one power level and no pedal assist - just a throttle. I agree with what you say, I bought the big battery as I wanted it to cover my round trip commute of 32 miles on one charge and factor in some degradation. Two years later and I'm planning a new bike with two 8/9 amp hour bottle batteries. I've spent too much time fiddling with rear carrier due to the battery weight.

Thank you everyone for your time in replying. I've only just found the time to come back on here and reply! I'm still undecided as to my route but think my next step is to visit kudos bikes and talk with Dave as they are just down the road. Anyone have experience of hub powered motors off road? Are the axles/motors strong enough to,take big hits? Thanks again , great forum.
