I have been following Benjy's conversion of a Brompton.
There were rumours of Brompton producing an elkectric version, but these have died down.
Anyone heard any more?

There is one coming...supposed to be at the end of this year. I couldn't wait that long...plus I expect it will be £2-3000.

Mike,

Yes shame it has been delayed but as stated its going to cost a lot. I have just purchased a Titanium model for £1150 (2011 model) and in the middle of an ultra light conversion (10.5/11kg carry weight of the bike) from which I reckon I will get change out of £1500. As I use my Brompton every day for work it will soon pay for itself in petrol/car running cost. Not that, that is why I commute with it. There are so many more advantages to commuting via ebike.

Also you can see a couple of earlier builds done my Dan and myself on here.

The Brompton produced motorised one will I suspect will be based around the steel model and rumours are it will weigh between 13-14kg, plus battery.

PS I am loving all these Brompton posts. Sorry if we are hogging the forum a little at the moment. As I have said I realise that Brompton fill a particular niche and in many other circumstances are not the best option for those looking for an ebike.

Regards

Jerry

No matter what bike or conversion Jerry, they are always interesting, even though they might not be something a viewer would ride. It's why concepts are produced, variety to entertain and attract attention.

Thanks Jerry,
I have a small campervan which I tow a boat with. The weight of a bike is not a problem, just that it must fold up small like a Brompton does.
When I am not sailing, I take my Tonaro inside the van, but when sailing, I have so much other kit in there including an inflatable boat that there is no room.
I have no hope of doing what you have done, so I suppose that I will wait for Brompton.

C.H. White in Banbury have a lovely ready to buy Brompton conversion which may suit you perfectly...the only reason i didn't go for it is that I need (want) an unusual amount
of range and power!

Brompton Brazen 36V

I have no affiliation with CH White but if you look at what you're getting it's a good price - Brompton M6L in custom colours with rack, Brooks saddle, C bag, Samsung celled battery, Bafang 8fun motor, etc etc and their build is top quality.

Interesting... I notice they have cut up the original brake mounts to use as mounts for the controller box. That gives me some ideas.... <sound of cogs turning>...

Now that is a damn good spot! I've used universal handlebar mounts for my box but it's not a particularly slick finish...I shall investigate this further!
