Hi all

Myself and t'other half are potentially looking at getting electric bikes for our riding in the Lakes where we spend most weekends. Today we had a ride on a Haibike Hard Seven with the Yamaha motor and bery nearly pulled the trigger until reflecting that most of our riding tends to be on roads/light trails and also that the gearing may be an issue on roads.

We also looked at a Cube, who I have experience of, and Felt online but would prefer to try before we buy. Are there any recommendations for hybrid/700c type bikes?

We also had quite strong steers from most places that Bosch motors were much better than Yamaha but do seem to come at a premium. As newbies we're not sure if this is true or if the price difference is worthwhile?

Any other tips really welcome.

The Bosch system is a bit more refined in the way it delivers power, but there's no evidence to say it's 'much better' in any respect.

A selling point for me would be the availability of a 500wh battery on the Bosch.

You are riding in the Lake District, very up and down, so battery capacity could be important unless you are literally only doing 15 or 20 miles.

Cube's Bosch bikes look reasonably priced and they make them in a trekking/hybrid style with the 500wh battery.

Or at least, they put pictures in the catalogue - obtaining the bike you want may not be easy.

You've already looked at quite a few bikes, so ought to have worked out they are all much of a muchness at a given price point.

Not least because the motor, battery, and all the bike bits are component supplied so you are buying much the same thing, just with a different name on the down tube.

Hi Weetabix,

I was brought up near Penrith and have called in to the Electric Bike Centre a couple of times when I have been up there but they have always been closed.

I would suggest that you contact them first before making a trip.
