I just noticed the status of these two members is showing as banned.

I'm quite surprised as I haven't seen anything happen in the forum and they were commenting a few days normally on posts... have I missed something? Seems a shame to lose two long-standing members.

Maybe its an error?

No, it's not an error. I have received a number of complaints with regards to comments made about other members on another area of the site. Along with previous conduct/complaints and breaking forum rules I have decided to impose a ban.

I too was surprised to see the bans.
Thanks rsscott for your brief explanation.

My personal feelings: what a shame...

I had heard from Eddie by email, but wasn't aware of the ban on Indalo, that surprising me more. The nearest to a "sin" I've know him committing to print was being a committed socialist, but that's surely not a reason for a ban in a supposedly free country.

I have read lately about some crackdowns on web behaviour from various sources, so I suppose we may see more of this in future. Sad.

Feel the punishment was bit too harsh it takes two to argue or 3 sometimes. Both have had a lot of input on this site & for me what was a good site to visit may not be the case if members are getting banned too easily.

Is it an indefinite ban or just temporary?

Sadly Eddie told me the ban was permanent, mailing me this text:

"You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.
Date the ban will be lifted: Never"

Well, I can only conclude that the punishment must fit the crime, otherwise it would appear to be harsh!

Maybe we should be reminded of the rules:

By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The owners of Pedelecs Electric Bike Community reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any content item for any reason.

Obscene: The Daahub kit battery when mounted.

Vulgar: The Optibike.

Sexually-oriented: References to "ladies" bikes instead of step-through.

Hateful: Legislative threats to ban throttles.

Threatening: Excessively high powered US e-bikes

Oh dear, perhaps the whole site should be banned. :(

OK, perhaps there should be a warning system then, something like the 3 strikes and your out, but I still agree that the site owners should have the final say if a blatant obuse of the rules occurs which threatens the integrity of the site and its members.

Of course, I don't think anyone is arguing that they should not have the final say, just about when that finality occurs.

Without the facts of the case being stated regarding the ban I see why you feel sad, hence my suggestion, maybe the site owners could review their decision.

Seems harsh

Long time ,no post .I belong to my football clubs forum and have since it started in 1996 .You can imagine what that site could be like if not moderated properly ,even so this forum is kids stuff in comparison . I dont know what the two people have done on here but a life ban is harsh ,very harsh . On our footie site infractions are given which are temporary bans depending on the crime ,I have had many .A permanent ban is only imposed on those who fail to stop the posts which break the forums rules.

I too hope that this is only temporary. Eddie can be a bit over reactive at times but he brought great deal of useful information to the site and was the main source of updates on the new Bosch system.
As for Indalo, I cant recall any offensive posts unless they were PM'ing nasty stuff.
Still, I think a permanent ban is very harsh for two of the forum's main contributors.

I'm slightly surprised at Indalo being banned, but Eddie has made a number of questionable posts recently, and in the past, so I'm not too surprised at that.

Yes agreed shemozzle also if the crime was as bad as to warrant an instant ban would it not be appropriate to convey to all members the nature of the offence after all we are purported to be a (community) A.K.A family, lest we might all fall into a breach of the rules .!......just a thought .

Although banned, their posts are still available to view, if you click on their names in any one of their posts.
Maybe it can throw some light on the problem.

I am not really sure what to think about this matter, but I for one would like to say that the forum will not be the same without Eddieo or Indalo:(. Oh, and if either of you are still able to read this from the confines of a maximum security cell, or are indeed still interested to do so, I write this without my usual sarcasm.

I would say that the members should be told the facts and allowed to vote for their return, but then this is not a democracy.

Perhaps I should leave it there before I too suffer a similar fate:confused:
