Just received a new battery for my ebike. Its a 17ah as opposed to my 10ah. Whats the best way to keep it nice lol. I fully charged it when i got it but how do i charge it then after? On my 10ah i just charged it when it went a below a certain bar on my bike.
Is that the best way?
Appreciate all your comments and ideas

The bars on the display aren't very accurate , all they indicate are very rough % levels determined by voltage seen. So typically 4 bars 100 - 25%, it will be still the same for a larger ah battery. The best type of fuel gauage is a watt meter or a voltage display read out.

17Ah instead of 10, it is already working much less hard which will help it last longer.

Never leave it empty and try not to run to empty. With the bigger capacity that should be easy. Get some charge into it asap if it does get very low.

If it is in regular use, then no harm in charging to full. But don't store full. 60% or one or two bars below full is fine.

A 4A charger makes life much easier than the often only 2A standard ones, and at 17Ah charge rate is not an issue.

So I don’t need to discharge the battery to empty on this first cycle. Just wondering

If there is any benefit to running to empty, it is only in calibration of whatever energy measuring hardware there might be. Which in a generic battery is none, and I think also none in a generic lcd, because they only go on voltage.

Top of charge is where balancing is done. Bottom does nothing else useful.

No, one will usually only fully disharge if opting for a long ride or to see how many miles the battery will actually manage.

So basically do as i was with the other battery.
Have a read of this article from the batteryuniversity.com website HERE which suggests that you'll get far more full charge/discharge cycles from your battery the less you discharge it before re-charging again.

Make of this what you will

Ive had my battery about 3 years, charge full after every use and just use it without bothering about it after that.
Never bother with all the nonsense of 80% max charge or any low charge advise either.
Too many folks worry about molly cuddling their battery , instead of just 'use it and enjoy it'. Not seen any noticeable deterioration in my battery life in my 3 years of use.
