Hi, hoping for help/advice please. The motor on my wife EBCO UCL:30 has been diagnosed as being faulty but the shop cannot seem to locate a new replacement. Its an earlier version (2015/16 we think) with 3 program settings. I THINK that it has a TranzX F15 250w 36v motor with 3 (I THINK..!!) internal cogs. Has anyone managed to find a supplier for said part? The bike is in for a full service which is now on hold until a replacement can be sourced. Any pointers are much appreciated as she uses it to cycle to work (shes a nurse) and is struggling without the electric assistance.

Finding the exact internal clutch gears may not be possible but one could use any hub motor for 100mm drop outs, it will depend if the motor is sensored or not and the motor connector used( Though I do have a vague recollection that the motor connection is not a universal type with Julet connector).

Holland bike shop may be a possible place for spares.

It's very unlikely that the motor is faulty. Who diagnosed that and what is their level of competence and knowledge?

It might be better to start by describing the symptoms and how they started.

Thank you. Symptons are it won`t kick in initially when peddling, eventually it will but will cut in and out. If you stop it either won`t work or surge and stop working again. I believe it has a sensor.

The competency of the bike shop is unknown as we haven`t used them previously but they do have very good reviews.

Sounds like it could be a pedal assist sensor issue or poss. a loose connector or damaged wire. Ask them why they think it's the motor and if they have tested the phase coils and hall sensors. If they look at you blankly, then you need to look elsewhere. It's not easy to find shops that know their stuff when it comes to testing ebike faults, apart from on here of course :), but we are usually miles away. Did the problem start suddenly or gradually get worse?

They're not the symptoms of a defective motor.

The most common cause for that is the motor not in ALL THE WAY to the MARKED LINE. In tight is not enough.

After that, it's the pedal sensor knocked out of line. See here:

Third common cause is defective brake switches. Disconnect the brake electrical connectors to see if it goes away. You can run your bike without the brakes connected to the electrical system for testing. Some people like to ride with a finger or two on the brake. That doesn't work on an electric bike with brake switches because it cuts the motor.

You need to ask the shop how they came to the conclusion that the motor needs replacing. On the surface, it sounds like they've no idea about how to fix ebikes, but maybe they tested something somehow.
